What's your one true "Forever Bass"?

My now wife bought this for me before we were even engaged. Used some of her divorce settlement. My first Carvin and first 5er. Never letting her go...not letting the wife go either...;)

Something with a P pickup in the standard P position will keep me happy.
That’s the sound in my head.
Basses will move through my life, with many differences but all have the P pickup similar.

At the moment I’m most in love with my Yamaha BB1600 and my lowly 1987 Peavey Fury...
Both awesome.
Yamaha especially is probably a “forever” bass...

My 2005 "diamond anniversary" american fender jazz 4. Butterscotch blonde. S1 switch for a very convincing P bass tone. Got it right before I went off to study jazz in college. First real bass I bought with money from working in high school. I'm a 5 guy mostly, but no matter what other basses I may have, that one is staying with me. Best E in the business.

I took several years to source all the parts. I had no rush...just looking and reading for cool little mods or parts that would benefit the build and fit the budget.

I succeeded in keeping the bridge vintage looking, but with more mass and the Gotoh 203 was in my budget at about $28. I prefer the look of the Hipshot Vintage style but it was not worth another $50 plus. I got the body, mighty mite neck, pickups, Hipshot Ultralight tuners and electronics all on a great deal. I originally had a passive harness and I didn't like the way it operated or sounded. Then it failed on me and I got the Audere for $60. If you are thinking about building a jazz, it is a fantastic piece of kit. The controls on this preamp work like none I've ever used before and the pickups just sound very clean. Every position has a usable good sound. Super highly recommended.

The bass has a threaded neck Bolt for Ultra solid connection and sustain, and a custom neck plate. The Fender Jazz sticker on the headstock is a waterslide decal. I ended up having a tech check all of my work out and set up the bass professionally. I still spent good money on the bass but am very happy with the final result.

I’m 19 years in with my 2001 EBMM SR4... nothing particularly special about it other than I like the neck just a little more than anything else I’ve played or owned... I bought it as the first (and only) new bass I’ve ever bought and planned to play it until I wear the finish off... I like that 19 years later all the play wear and dents and dings are mine but darn that’s a solid finish that will likely last longer than I do...

My Warwick Streamer Stage 1 was/is my dream bass. I found it in nearly new condition for a (relatively) cheap price in a store last xmas eve & bought it the next day. Of course there are a few other basses I'd like to own someday, (original Steinberger, Strandberg, '58 style P bass, an Alpher) but I'm not sure any of them would replace it as the #1.
