When did "Short Scale Shaming" become 'a thing'???

Jack Bruce,
Felix Pappalardi,
Paul Mc Cartney,
Bill Wyman,
Ron Wood.

Of the top of my head, I can think of these electric bass guitar pioneers, their solid and often very melodic lines, and the fact that their instrument of choice was a short-scale bass.

When did it become a 'problem' to play short-scale?

Just throwing it out there for discussion...

Diego
I haven't encountered that one. I prefer longs, but I love my shorts.

It's not a thing. In fact there's no such thing as a thing. Nothing is a thing.

It isn’t a thing.

As someone else said, nobody cares what you play.

I don't care, you don't care, nobody should care but... there are people that carry around perceptions. I've been vibed for bringing small-ish drums and horrors! No double bass-pedal to a metal audition. A friend was told you "can't" play metal on single coils and it's been mentioned here that there are those that look down on hippie sandwiches in blues bands or told that they were "underdressed" when they went to a session call without a p-bass in their arsenal. I've been here at TB for a few years now and have definitely seen some comments about girl's basses and how any male over the age of 12 should be able to "handle" a 34".

Again, I don't buy any of this but it's false to say it doesn't exist.

I have not heard of in any posts regarding your subject. I am currently interested in exploring short scale basses. Having said this, I am not refuting your proposition. I am confident that there is a PC patrol monitoring short scales. It a result of our societal devolution into all things that were happy and comfortable, now being scrutinized for all manner of PC exposition and derision. Enjoy what you like. Do not succumb to the "Central Scrutinizer". Abide by your own conscience.

Lot of points here.

1) You SHOULD bring double bass-pedal to a metal audition - It's a standard part of drum kits used for metal.
2) I wouldn't look down on someone who brought a hippie sandwich to a blues audition, but I'd question their judgment. Once you have the gig, play what you want.
3) You ARE underdressed if you don't bring a P bass to a session call. Unless you are told specifically what to bring, it's just common sense to bring a P bass because they are so popular with producers/engineers.
4) A couple of asshats making ignorant comments is not a "thing" it's just a couple of asshats.

Part of being a professional is knowing the 'dress code.' Once you are a superstar that can call the shots, do your own thing, but until then, the guys that get along get the work.

Just my opinion, your's may differ.

Below is possibly the other best short scale for metal that I owned 15 years ago!! Never should've sold it :(

They're fun!!! Most of mine are standard scale but it will be great to have another shorty in a few days!! Cheers

They put ketchup on pizza in Guadalajara. I'm not joking. In three different pizza joints there was ketchup on the table and one of the people in my party put ketchup on his slice.
I used to live in Guadalajara and never saw anyone put ketchup on a pizza. Perhaps the ketchup was for fries. I know that putting ketchup and mayo on pizza is a thing in Iran.
