When tattoos make you look ridiculous

It's fairly easy to cover up a tattoo for those sorts of reasons, there are loads of actors with tattoos and get them covered up for film roles.

Man, I thought this thread was dead, now its reared its ugly head again, I have a bass clef on my arm, I would like to have a couple half sleeves(can be covered with clothing easily) but im thinking long and hard before pulling the trigger, I've had the clef for over 2 years, just cant think of other things I want on me forever at the moment. IMO Tats can only look ugly if they're the random types like B-bal players have or Bombshell Mcgee.

Bombshell Mcgee super ugly tats, if u dont know who im talking about, just google image her, I dont feel comfy posting the pics I saw on here, lol, all u gotta know is she gives tats a bad name.

im an actor by trade. Iv considerd a bass cleff tatoo, but it could seriously affect my chances of getting certain roles

Edit : the tatoo cover looks very effective, but youd need to do it before an audition, and probly lie. I know disney wolnt even touch you for MOST things if they know you have a tatoo.

Iono, I just think that type of thinkin is ridiculous and on its way out the door hopefully, lol, it was the same thing with piercings and now they're beginning to be more accepted, just today I saw some kind of VIP for yamaha(I work at a yamaha warehouse) who had earrings in both ears, that probly wouldn't have been acceptable for a company big wig even 10 years ago, maybe sooner. I just dont see the point in denying someone work for a tat if its easy to cover up, I could understand if they're all over but not in inconspicuous places. And I think Carly Smithson is very attractive, tats be damned, lol.

This has been beat to death but if you think that in *professional* situations that you won't be discounted by displaying your art I would urge you to rethink it. I'm an engineer & there are several younger girls in the office that have ink showing on the back of their neck (hair up) or coming up from the back. I do not see *any* management types with ink. Note to self....

I think that it would be pretty short sighted to overdue the ink. I almost did it when I was younger and I'm so glad I didn't. First, the art would be a little "streached" by now...plus, none of the crap I considered then is something I would want now. I know more musicians that sought the shelter of professional income later in life than those that are working musicians today. I would hate to limit my options later in life just so others can see it on me. Just my humble opinion...

Wow, this is a really hot debate.

As someone who is fairly heavily tattooed, I don't care what anybody thinks of me. If they judge me because I have tattoos, that's their problem, not mine. I may be lucky enough to work in an environment where it's not a problem but I can't say I've ever witnessed any of my tattooed friends having problems with employment.

Maybe the UK is more tollerant than the US when it comes to ink?

I have 12 or 6 tattoos depending on how you count them and work at a jazz record label. However I also wear long sleeves everyday but it doesn't really bother me. It almost feels like having a secret identity. Last weekend I got small gauges in my ears(10) and everyone noticed. To me piercings are far more detrimental to getting work than tattoos since most of them can't be covered up.

I have 23 tattoos (20 of them self done). I get A LOT of negative attention from them even though I don't work. It's not just your boss you have to think about. Everyone has their idea on what's "normal" and what's "inapropriate". I say get them. If you're worried about them being seen go somewhere where they won't be noticed (back, chest, upper arm, shoulder, legs)

20 self done tattoos.

8 current piercings (self done)

3/4 gages (ripped into place)

over 100 self done piercings that have been taken out for one reason or another.

and then other random acts of self mutilation that I won't go into.

It was more of a comment about your "punk rock" attitude you bring to the internet.

Stay away from infection, and when you decide to let your gauges heal make sure you step down and then cut them once they get tight. You stand a chance of actually reversing the damage.

Firreal fellas, with so much beeotching about the search function, you'd think people would check the date of the last post. We all get lost in the thread and want to contribute. I remember this thread from 2008. Seriously. Get a tattoo or not, put a swatstika on your face. I don't care. I do think gg allin had some quality work. Thread's dead, baby, thread's dead.

lower back tattoos on the whole are a bit of a no-goer. There was this girl in my English class a couple of years ago, sweet personality, bubbly and utterly gorgeous. She came in one day with a cliché-as-hell tribal lower back tattoo...like scrawling on a Monet. :scowl: I think fair enough if a tattoo has a significant meaning you are prepared to carry for the rest of your life, but I know she now regrets doing it as a spur of the moment "I'm 18 and can do what I want now!". My old kickboxing instructor had more ink than a phonebook, suited him well and I did consider it quite artful.
