Where can I get an easy to use HPF...

My view, the best solution to get an easy to use HPF is getting something like a WD-800. If you look at the price of a boutique pedal like Broughton, adding that to the price of an amp, you're up at the WD-800 price range. That's for a good 500watt amp. More if you need an 800 watt amp.

Yes, I'm pretty sure anything Agedhorse has designed has an HPF already on board, and as stated previously, the Genzler amps also.
I believe the Streamliner also has a pretty serious HPF built in... which you might not think because it has a pretty serious low end.

I've always been happy with my stage sound - what ever the and and cab are doing in terms of roll offs (turning the tweet off, ect). Never felt a need for any filters on my stage rig.
For me, I'm trying to get some HPF / LPF action into my FOH signal and have some control there. I think if you run your DI on "pre" on most amps or use a clean DI box (countryman / JDI) you are sending FOH everything.

I'm thinking hard about puling the trigger on a ToneHammer DI for my FOH signal - AGS on, gain super low.
Considering putting by boss tuner at the end of my chain, so I have the option of running the output to the TH, and the bypass to the amp. This way I could mute my FOH when tuning, mute at the amp at the amp when tuning (if even necessary), and have an unaffected signal still going to my amp without the TH in the chain.
 
Although I have no experience with this unit, a common issue of the passive ones I've seen is the slope being too gradual. I'd write the seller and ask what is the slope.

Nobody should be selling HPF or LPF filters without stating the slope in the specs.

They often have more insertion loss than many of us would like as well, which tends to become worse as the filter order (and hence slope) increases.

The science is good. I agree with the science, and I agree with having an HPF in the amplifier somewhere in the signal chain. But I do not agree with it being before the instrument input unless you're using a pedal that requires the removal of low frequencies.

Companies that specialize in bass-centric pedals go to great lengths to engineer them so they DON'T suck signal out of the chain.

This thread is inside an Amp and Cabs forum. It's not an HPF forum. I can certainly provide a dissenting opinion, especially for an amp with a baked in HPF. Not everyone believes in them and telling people who don't to go away is unproductive.

Are you aware of how useful the EQ section of most Genzler amps really is?

I still maintain he likely doesn't need it, and like many have said, some bass cabinets act like a passive HPF anyway, so there's that too.

If you were running a pre into a PA power-amp, with very high bandwidth in the power amplifier, I'd recommend an HPF between the and the power amp. This is not the case, here. You're just piling on another preamp to a high-gain input that deletes signal.
That's, like, just your opinion stated as fact, man.

Here's an actual fact enclosed in a made up statistic. 95% of us running an HPF have it before the amplifier and we don't suffer distorted low B C C# D D# or even E. We just get super clean low end as big and tight as we want.

You're trying to get us to drink our KoolAid from a straw because it tastes better and we ain't buying it. So quit it.

You've missed one of TB's precepts somewhere along the way: if it sounds good, it is good.

Whether you agree, disagree, believe or disbelieve anything about any piece of equipment is irrelevant to that statement.

If you don't want to use an HPF, don't use one.

I suggest starting your own thread where you can expound on your opinions ad nauseum.
 
When setting a HPF, should it be before or after the preamp? in the effects loop 1st or the end of the effect pedals? I seems it should be in the beginning so the other effect pedals are not amplifying signals of extreme lows or highs depending on what Hpf /Lpf your are using?

Not every HPF can go in the fx loop. Some have to go in the fx loop or after something with some compatible output impedance.

The order in a fx chain is dependent on what your fx are doing along the way. It's all in the mega thread.

The Bergantino B|Amp has built in HPF and LPF that is totally frequency adjustable.

This is from the manual on the HPF.

"The VHPF (turn BASS/Filters knob to adjust frequency) allows frequencies above the displayed frequency to pass while cutting frequencies below. Factory default is 40hz. Turning this knob adjusts the cut-off frequency from32hz –80hz in 2hz increments. Use this control to clean up the very low end of the bass frequencies, which can often muddy the low-end program information and needlessly stress your speaker system and waste amplifier headroom.

To help minimize needless stress on speakers and maximize amplifier and overall system headroom, it is advisable to set this control at40hz (factory default setting) or higher,if further low frequency attenuation is needed.The Variable Feedback filter is intuitively designed to help you identify and sweep the note frequencies from E1(41hz)–G3(196hz)in single note (1/2 step) increments, and adjust the gain from OFF to -6db to -12dBin level to help eliminate or minimize problem feedback issues with electro-acoustic instrument."

He wants something that won't break the bank. Bass amps come with pass filters. They're called bass and treble controls. No offense to the guys that use filters. No offense to the guys who believe their controls should be left at noon. But I also never in 35 years used a filter. No point. My amps have them already. In shelving bass and treble controls. You can save cash by just reducing lows at higher volumes. You can get way scientific, buy cabs that respond to the frequency points of yer amp, say the typical rolloff of a cab is 40 hz, buy an amp with a 40 hz shelving bass eq point, and there's your filter. Bass, treble, parametric eq, graphic eq, are all band pass filters. And plenty of great tones were had, still are had, by pros and regular guys alike, with no filters. I have filters on my power amp. But it is easier, better sounding, to just roll off what I don't want with eq. And you put money back in your pocket. The OP asked for a cheap solution. Using your amp and bass' electronics controls are it. I happen to agree with Mr Blaze Barlow. Filter? Heh. Amps already come with em.

They are just shelving controls. So technically, the high-pass does gradually chop everything below 100Hz if you dial it all the way back.

But the 7000 has a crossover, and it may be possible to use the crossover to dial out any frequencies by sending them to the unused amplifier. The remaining signal above the crossover point will go to the second amp which you plug a speaker into - a poor-man's HPF.

I'm doubting it. I wondered about those "low pass" and "high pass" knobs under the label "contour." But after glancing at the manual they just seem like cut/gain knobs centered at 100 Hz and 10 kHz.
