Which 1980 bass is worth looking for?

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Schecter American-made basses from the early 80s were some of the best Fender-type basses ever made, and every one of the examples that I've played could go head-to-head with any modern Sadowsky, Lull, Alleva-Coppolo, Valenti, or Fender Custom Shop. Fabulous instruments...and completely different from any of the basses currently sold under the Schecter brand.
Not just made for Stanley, but co-designed and 100% funded by Stanley. Clarke Basses was supposed to be a commercial venture; after he alpha- and beta-tested prototypes all over the Clarke-Duke album they were supposed to go into production. It was a business venture he personally spearheaded. No idea how many basses they actually made before going belly-up though; my recollection is that the venture folded before any instruments made it to market.
Ibanez Musician. The MC - 924 with the two brown pickups, 6 knobs, 3-way switch & mini switch is an awesome instrument - great sound & versatility ( stopped making this one in 1981 I believe). The MC 900 & 940 are nice, too.
This was exactly my thought. Other basses mentioned so far are all excellent choices, but I like the idea of a bass in it's first year of production for the OP's ...um ...year of production.
Ibanez RB series are great too. I have a 83 and an 86 RB650. Neck began to thin out on the later models, both still slay.
Just picked up a Peavey T-45 and looking forward to setting it up. Even with one pickup there are a huge amount of tones available.
Even more tonal variance than I'm hearing from the ATK with an active EQ.

Also a 1980 T-40 for $400, but for now I... must... resist...!
Ovation Magnum, or Ibanez Studio ST-824. The T-40 is a given, but has enough support already

I had a T-40 in 1980 and sold it in 1984....after some 30 years later, I picked up another one for about the same price I paid for it then...$300.
They are fun to play and get cool tones. It is a beast, can be used as a sledge hammer for home remodeling and stay in tune for the gig that night
I've missed a few on ebay. Would like to stay under $400...close to perfect would be nice.
There was one on craigslist near me...a really nice one in that Sienna Burst that you don't see that often for under $300. I emailed the seller and found out it was already gone...then I saw it on ebay for $500 a few days later!

The one I had in the early 80's was the natural finish, as well with the one I bought last fall.
The sunburst and the white finished basses were not as common. I found my '81 model Craigslist and it had very little wear.
I have no idea what this bass is like, but it looks rather cool!
these early 80's BC rich basses/guitars were each handmade with spoke shaves and knives(cnc came much later), no single build was exact to the last, but they are the most amazing instruments in both sound and feel, they have chunky necks usually
this eagle(and most basses from then) has a early kahler bridge (some had badass), dimarzio pickups, Grover titans, I own an 81 Tijuana mockingbird, best bass I ever played, ended all gas for basses!!

If this Billboard chart for 1980 is correct, then the #1 song that year was from Blondie and the #2 song was from Pink Floyd. So, the ultimate 1980 bass would have to be...the Fender Precision.
