why are some fenders made like this

played 2 shows.. 10 people surveyed each show..


FIRST Show:
7 people didnt even notice what i was playing
1 thought it was just dirty
2 thought it was old & dirty


Second Show:
5 people didn't notice what i was playing
2 said bass looked old & dirty
2 thought it was "cool" that's all they said (these were 2 girls about 10 years old)
1 lady asked what a bass was. ( I think she made a funny )

It was entertaining to go out to audience and ask such a stupid question

" I am taking a survey on the bass I'm playing tonight... what did you notice about it ?"

Hey, at least guitar stores are well lit so you know what you're buying... Not like that time I thought I was walking into a Haunted Fun House, ended up inside an Abercrombie & Fitch, then I bought some pants only to realize in the daylight that they were already torn to shreds and ruined for me.

They should sell relic'd food that already has a bite taken out of it.

Okay, Let's put this myth to rest also.
The MIM 50's P is $700
The AVR '57 is $1350
The RW 50's P Is $800

The RW BLOWS away the MIM 50's and in a blind test I will bet you would pick the RW over the AVR. But then you will pay extra for the shine if you go with the AVR.

You are not paying extra. You are getting MORE for your money.

So you're saying there's no such thing as a Custom Shop heavy relic RW Jazz that costs $6000 ? or reliced P-basses that cost over three and four thousand dollars? You're gonna tell me they would cost that much without the relicing?

I saw a MIM roadworn tele guitar in a local shop at $1200. I just don't get it? You can buy used MIA teles all day at that price with change left over and a hardshell case. I just bought an early 70's MIJ Ibanez lawsuit era tele that plays and sounds better for a quarter that price. The basses must be something really special I guess.

Oh I can see every reason in the world for not taking a valuable vintage guitar or amp into a club of even a decent concert venue. Theft, damage and hellishly expensive insurance for a nearly irreplaceable piece of gear are enough.

I won't even gig with my CS Nocaster anymore because too many wandering and envious eyes have caught sight of it and looked like they were plotting a way to make it theirs and it's not worth anywhere near $12k or irreplaceable.

Where are they $800? Every online dealer is selling them for $899, the same price as the American Special P Bass.

I could buy a new Carvin B40 for that, and still have money left over for blackjack and hookers. :D

LOL, sure you can. Bass players and fishermen are among the worlds greatest liars and story tellers. Haven't you heard of the famous ten thousand or so "once owned by __________ adds on CL? Complete with a forged certificate of authenticity.

The store that I worked at had about a dozen of those road worn models. Although some of them played and sounded great, none of them sold. Nobody was interested in them enough to fork over the $$ for what amounted to a new guitar made to look old.
