Why do I have to want a P...

It's just the herd mentality........ like the way everyone wants a Harley. There a bikes that are, cheaper, faster, better handling, ride better, more powerful, more comfortable, yet that's what folks think they want. Go figure. Enjoy your Jazz!

I've got a Yami cruiser and I really like it, but it's too small, the bigger japan cruisers are no different than a Harley ergonomics wise, but most of them lack the sound. Pretty comparable to buying a specific bass. I tried a softail slim and it was a match made in heaven. Will take some time gettin' it, though.

Wouldn't buy a P bass btw.

Like I stated before, keep an open mind. I'll tell you what happened last week with me....

I was geared up to by a Lakland US P Bass that I have been drooling over for over a year. Something told me to go and play it again before you take the money out of the bank. I'm glad I did because when I played it again, it just wasn't as sweet as the last 7 or 8 times I played it. Same rig and all. Talk about disappointment? Before I left, I saw a beautiful Fender avri 62' JAZZ bass that caught my eye (that's right, I said jazz bass). Reluctantly I'll admit, I played it and within 5 minutes I was sold. Only because at times, I can be open-minded. I will go back after I save back the money I spent to try that Lakland again but I will say that I am happy with my decision. And in the end, YOUR happiness is ALWAYS the most important thing.

Ya know, my P bass GAS sort of subsided... And was replaced by a GAS for an active Deluxe Jazz! #$&@ me, right?

I'll tell you this, I bought a 62' reissue P bass early this year. That bass is so f-ing amazing. It's the one in my avatar. I really believe that that bass has jaded me and MAY have curved my lust for more P basses. The tone and feel of my baby is just uummmmm. I think that's why I wasn't bonding with the Lakland but who knows. I still want that Lakland but next time, I'm a try to not play my Fender P for a few days before I go at her again.

So funny, I tried to trade in my Mexican jazz for the active Jazz. Only $200... Even though the bass was upgraded with a Gotoh bridge and BassLines pups, it goes down in value. The sales guy was like "yeah, those are awesome upgrades! But it devalues the bass..." I was like

Sorry to hear that but that used to be the norm. It you changed it from it's original set up, it devalued. But every since Ebay, Talkbass and Craig's List, the rules vary pending on the seller. Every since individual sellers thought that they should get the same as retailers and get more for the upgrades, things have definitely changed.

This is how I am justifying the purchase to my fiancee. I half-heartedly showed an American Standard P for $1,399 on Sweetwater, but that got shot down instantly. Looking at an Affinity P by Squire.

Couldn't imagine being an adult and being told what I could and couldn't have..maybe you need to rethink this bass player marriage thing, lpl

In the Squier world if that is what works for you, CV > VM >>> Affinity. Price is not all that different (used, of course).

And if you want to sell a bass in the future, don't mod it. Just sayin'.

I didn't mod it. Someone else did... But lesson learned

It does sound amazing though, for a regular ol' Mexican Jazz.

Ok, outside the box...sterling ray 34ca. a P bass... for the discerning !!! sweet spot PU for the grit, simple 2 band eq, skinny neck sweet, but still built heavy enough to swat zombies and drunk groupies. oh and cheap well compared to fender. That's what I did, I really dislike P's but I needed a war hammer to fill out the herd.

HAVE YOU LOST YOUR FORKING MIND?!?! Jazz all the way! I'm not a Fender fan, but if I were, Jazz is by far the best bass for my ears.

I know everyone hates the car analogy but.....I have a truck and a sports car both fun both good for different situations. Variety is the spice of life.

For the record I have: 3 Jazz type Fenders. 3 stock (mostly) Fender Precisions. And 3 P/J type Fenders.

I am thinking about buying a p-bass because it is less hi-fi and a totally tone than an active j-bass.
