Why isn't there a fuzzy envelope pedal with fat synth characteristics?

Isn't this a general sound effect that a lot of bass players want? I know I do! I'm really surprised that no one makes a single pedal just for that specific sound. I've tried all sorts of combinations with fuzz pedals, evelopes, etc, and can never get it right. And it can be quite expensive trying it that way. I wish someone would just make the darn pedal! :)

The closest thing I've heard to that sound is a red ripper. There's videos of it where it gets a synthy, envelope filtery kind of fuzzy sound with the r.i.p. knob... other than that I got nothin. (p.s. I want a red ripper sometime :p)

Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synth? I mean Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synth!!!

Have had mine for 25 years. It is fat and funky. Pretty raw tho if you are looking for clean and modern.

Looking for clean but analog. I've heard the microsynth, and while it comes close to the idea, it just doesn't have the fatness, fuzz, and analog synth sound I'm looking. I really don't think pedal like this exists. Maybe it's just too difficult design.

Nah, that just sounds like a typical filter that has high octaves and quacks like a duck. I already have one.

There's a couple fuzz envelope filters that sound synthy too... EHX Bass Enigma Q Balls and Fuzzrocious Terrodactyl. I had the Q Balls for a while, I miss it.

  8. Yes the Q balls is a great pedal, often overlooked in boutique-obsessed circles.

Would the prunes and custard fall into this category?

  10. But the Bass Micro Synth IS Analog. (and it does sound fat.)

Chunk Systems Octavius Squeezer (Yes... it IS analog too.)

  11. Digitech Bass Synth Wah?

  12. Not so much. It's more distortion than modulation but the modulation is very cool.

OP can you point us to an example of the sound you're talking about?

I have the "Tone-Lok" version of the Ibanez Bass SB7 bass synth. Basically an envelope filter with a two switchable fuzzes. I'm not crazy about it, I find the sounds tend to be too thin and trebly for a 'bass pedal'. The controls are quite touchy and interactive, it takes a while to dial in.

It's out of production but there are many available on the used market for under a hundred dollars.

Here's a demo video, not mine, but it's good reproduction of how this box sounds.

  15. Yup. It is VERY well-designed and flexible, and does exactly what the OP wants. And it can be had quite affordably, used. I need to pick one up again. Nothing beats it in the price range, that's for sure...

here is what I use with great results:

synth-modded Boss OC-2 is usually run into the following:

    Tech 21 Red Ripper
    Fuzzrocious Terrordactyl
(with OC-2 synth mod on) WMD Super Fatman
    EHX H.O.G. (in filter mode)

I can see how this might come close to what I'm looking for. Maybe we can sample the output of our pedal board and send it to a pedal builder and ask "can you make a pedal that does this?". :)

Thats what I was going to recommend. There are a couple good fuzzy synth sounds on there.

One of the best pedals Ive ever bought.

  20. I use a modded Bass Balls for the phat fuzzy sound
