The seed of this discussion comes down to dads versus non-dads. There's dad basses and then there's non dad basses. Now granted Ibanez has made plenty of dad basses (a lot mentioned in this very thread). Overall though, their claim to fame has been the anti-dad bass, the SR. A bass that stripped away all the old silliness with pick guards, bulky bodies, and other vintage styling for a smooth and fast playability machine.

I am a hands on kind of guy and of the 5 basses i have owned so far, 3 of them i made.

The only two I ever bought were both Ibanez.

As far as bang for the buck, I think they are the best instruments out there.
I don't plan on buying any more Ibanez basses, but that is only because i don't plan on buying any more at all.
I simple enjoy the challenge of building them. I try to make each new one have a slightly better tone, better playability, or other improvement. It is getting tough because the last one i built really kicked a**. And the one i am in the middle of building will be top notch. Just the electronics, pups and hardware parts are costing over $500, so it better be good. And, that is not including the tonewood. Total custom build.

^^ Do you hear the helicopters yet? That'll be the Fender Police coming to take you to a re-education camp.

Seriously, nice collection. I like the blonde on in the top third from left. Is it a spalt top?

I do have a Squier, does that count?

Yeah, that's the SR5SMLTD with a spalt top, Birdseye finger board, and Birdseye pickup covers. Love that bass...

I tried. Bought the Sr3006e and is what very uncomfortable ergonomically. Sound was so so. I love their guitars. I own an AZ Prestige. Punches way above it's price range. Easily competed with some Suhrs and Tom Andersons. My daughter wanted to start playing guitar and, I forget the model name, it was a fairly inexpensive model but she loved the color...frickin' stellar instrument. Sounds and plays amazing, especially for something that wasn't much coin. Was interested in their Grooveline model but they axed the line since it didn't sell.

why is an Ibanez bass guitar not a very popular bass.....I have 5 out of 30 bass guitars.....I love the sounds......But when I read I up on bass players out of the masses only a few play Ibanez......I was just wondering why that is???????They look and sound great to me.......

I started out on a short stock bass which was fine whilst learning but moved to Fender when I needed a "fuller" sound

I've got an Roadstar II here that needs work, would love to get it functioning again.

The new ones seem popular to me as I see them being played in many videos. Personally they aren't for me though. Every time I pick one up the craftsmanship and attention to detail just doesn't do it for me. Many feel like toys.
