This is my submission for the Winter-2019 Build off
For details, please read my build thread:
Winter Build Off 2019 - Kubickenbacker
My build off contains the mashup elements of the following:
- Rickenbacker body and headstock shapes and cues
- Kubicki-inspired takes on the Rick design
- Kubicki contouring and over-engineering wherever possible... and strap buttons
- A bottle opener
Specs of the build are as follows:
Neck : 13-piece curly maple with walnut stringers, supported by carbon. Extended rear tenon design, bolted in using hand-made brass inserts in the body (a take on Bruce Bars)
Finger Board: Granadillo, 20 stainless steel frets, face dots and Kubicki-style side markers
Fingerboard radius: 20"
Scale Length: 33.5" with a "Drop A" detuning mechanism at 37+"
Bridge/Tuners: Hipshot Headless 18mm, mounted into an aluminum block in the body
String clamps: Aluminum blocks with stainless pinch bolts (home made)
Pickups: Sire M2 dual coils
Electronics: Sire preamp 3 band, with added series/parallel switching on each pickup. B-M-MFreq-T, pan, PTC, A/P. Nickel shielded cavity.
Body: 4 piece curly maple, chambered.
Finish: White WB poly, satin. Tru Oil neck.
Strings: D'Addario Stainless Super Long scale
Knobs: Black Aluminum, from Love My Switches
Weight: 10-ish (scale is terrible)
Patented (not) "Porter Plate" Headstock Sustain Inductionator (... which also opens beer bottles)
Now to really appreciate the contours, you kind of need a dimmer lighting scheme:
Maybe that's too dark. Let me try this:
Yup... LEDs. Pull the bass control knob up and they glow.
Or since it's Rick, they "Glo"...
RojoGlo.
And that's...
THE KUBICKENBACKER.
