Winter Build Off 2022 - Get Ready

That thing was absolutely stunning.
Since I've missed about 1200 posts, and I didn't see the answer in the first two pages, can I ask a quick question? Do we have to have ALL of the hardware and electronics at the start? I have lots of wood I can use and I'll probably make the truss rod and bridge, but I don't have a set of tuners around right now and that's not likely to change in the next six days, but I'd like to participate this time around.
No rush, you don't have to have every part to start the thread and begin. Some people even change their hardware until way past what I would personally consider to be too late.
All you need is your wood pile. I usually don't have my fretboard at the start.
I still have one major choice - between two components, both of which I have on hand. I'm really torn.
I always thought you only needed to say you were entering at the start. As long as you finish by the deadline, who cares where you are at the start.
That's mandatory reading for you, to be completed before the Buildoff starts. There'll be an examination.

Beej can correct me if his intentions are different, but in the past, you only needed to announce your entry before the end date - no need to enter on the start date. The start date is just the earliest date you're officially allowed to enter. So you don't even need to say you're entering at the start, you can say you're entering any time. We've had buildoffs where people appeared out of nowhere and submitted new entries with weeks or days left before the end date.
I'm going to procrastinate until the last minute and then have every single piece of the build on the bench by the start date. That should satisfy most of my disorders.

Simply say you're entering and at the end, post a pic of a bass you bought.
On a serious note, it's only 3 months and it seems the main rule is that you build something and start at step 1.
I can see starting a few weeks late, but I can't see why anyone would want to enter with only a few weeks or days left. Unless maybe it's an assembly build with an easy finish(?)

I'll likely be starting behind the curve. I have most of the stuff I need, but no body or wood for it. I need to call antique and order pots and a side jack at least
If I had enough tools, I'd be searching for old acoustic pianos or old furniture on online marketplaces like craigslist. Old pianos are heavy AF and people give them away in my area. Wood is already nice and nicely dried out.... and I'm pretty cheap so there's that.
I wanted mahogany, so I'm waiting
And I don't have a planer, so I'm waiting for someone else!

You can enter as many times as you like and you can enter anytime after the start of the build off on December 21.
Considering how much is involved in a full build (or even an assembly build if you want to modify or get things detailed), it's worth looking at how much time you need. Immediately followed by panicking and realizing it's not simple thing to get a whole build done in 3 months. Here's my first winter build off experience in emojis:
I hope it's already understood that whenever you start, you should not have worked on the build itself before the start date. The "wood pic" in the first post needs to show where you're starting out. So it might just be a pile of wood or just a pile of parts but what you have should not be touched until the start of the build off.
If you will be building components for your instrument, like math class, you have to show your work. We don't need a full production video like @postalflunkie has amazingly produced in the past, or posts that would make instagram jealous, like @turindev naturally seems to do with every build. But a few pictures and descriptions of what you did and especially how you did it are the bread and butter of the build off.
To quote a milli-vanillion posts on TB: "MOAR PICS!"
