Winter Build Off 2022 - Get Ready

Looks good to me. I always liked the look of the Talman output jack plate with a spot for a potentiometer. Might look good here. Could give too much of an Ibanez vibe though.

That jack would make for a great minimalist approach. I saw that and thought, "Man it would be cool to put a stacked volume/tone on it." Kinda in the vein of the joe dart thing. A 1 pup bass with a stacked vol/tone and that jack would look pretty cool imho.....

Black hardware and pickups have arrived. This was the first Schaller bridge I've bought that was received in the original box with a spacer. Even came with black screws. All this darkness makes me want to make the bass black too, but I have some delightful figured maple tops that have been waiting patiently to be used. I guess I still have some time to decide.

I'm interested in this one. The lace alumatones have had my interest for a while. Any previous experience?

Mainly I'm here for the pictures....

Black on figured maple works well:thumbsup:. Case in point:).

guess that answers my question. I do like more pictures. Got a headache today so pictures are nice. How do the alumatones sound?

Fantastic.

Of course, everybody has a different definition of "fantastic"….

There's a whole big thread about them in the Pickups forum, lemme find a link…..

Here it is: Unofficial Lace Sensor thread

@mapleglo thanks for the info. @ctmullins if you find that link, send it my way. I've searched, but didn't find a lot on that pickup here on TB. Course I could have gotten distracted by something. Lots of things to get distracted by on TB.

I've got a junker fretless p (yamaha) and I'm going to refinish it. I like the silky texture that nordstrand has in the blades, but have been poking around for options. This bass has a slightly odd string spacing, so blades would work better. I was arguing with myself between Dimarzio's blade pickups and the Nordstrand. Then I learned of lace's. I'm not building it, so it wouldn't count for WBO. Also, I probably wont finish it anytime soon.

Speaking of last minute shopping, I was drawing a completely unrelated bass last night, and I came up with some ideas that I incorporated into my WBO plans and changed them, so I ordered a couple more pieces of wood. In theory, they should show up on Tuesday. :wacky:

Well... there are more than 9,000 minutes to go so at least you didn't wait until the last minute!

Likewise, I decided to add something to my design and ended up having to order something yesterday. :wacky:

May be an odd way of phrasing this question, but how would you say the Alumatones work in a "P bass context", ie middle position on a single pickup bass.
Let me tell you that ever since I've decided that I can learn to build my own basses, I have not had GAS for any bass whatsoever, ...

.... except one bass that a TB member in my area built, which I played at his house, and it's been stuck in my head ever since, and it has a single Lace in the P position.

Love that bass, love that pickup.
