Made a little more progress on the radius.
Did a little more on the radius this afternoon. Slow and steady, trying not to overdo it. First mock-up:

Worked a bit more on the radius of the fretboard, and rough cut the top. I still have to glue on the braces, cut the hole, and glue it to the body.

Now I'm thinking I may go with the Ovation multiple hole pattern in the upper bass side part of the body, instead of the center hole. I can just install the pickup "normally", and make a cover for the multiple holes.

Gotta wonder how engineered those holes are, vs just a pattern that looked cool. You could tweak em, make em flames, or another geometric shape (triangles could be cool...), or kitty Kat heads

In other news, we stopped by HD on the way home from lunch to pick up a can of Varathane poly.
My compressor died about a year ago, and since I hadn't been building, I didn't think to replace it. I'm still not sure I will. In the mean time, I'll use this to spray the neck before I start fretting.
I don't know what you Americans do wth your water fowl, and whether they consent, but here in Canada, we use such pressure sensitive adhesive products on our duct work.
The radius is pretty much done. I may work on it a touch more, but I think it's good enough.
Since I decided to go with the multiple small sound holes, and I won't put a huge access hole in the back of the body, I have to make sure I can do everything from the outside, To that end, I epoxied an end block into the body. This will secure the strap lock and tailpiece.
I'm still working on how I'll deal with the output jack. I may have enough room to just squeeze my hand, or a really long long-nose pliers through the pickup hole.
I also started working on the volute.
Every day, I also shape the headstock just a bit. It's close to being done. I can start shaping the neck soon as well. This is one of my favorite tools when I get to this stage of a build:
I had one that I made from blocks of wood, with a 1/4" threaded rod, and sandpaper glued on it, but I can seem to find it. This is the sanding drum from my oscillating sander, with a 1/2" threaded rod through it.

Knew a luthier that soldered just the male end of an instrument cable to a bass string and would use it to fish in output jacks. Stick the washer and nut on it, put it through the hole, insert into the jack, pull it through, tighten the nut using the fish to hold it for you, pull it out when you're done.
