Yeah I agree, I had 3 Rics and seen a 5 back in the 80's so of course I had to play it and I played it for maybe a minute and thought, they just slapped another string on it, made the adjustments on everything but the neck, be very very difficult to get my thumb and fingers in for slapping, it was tuff just to play finger style, kinda cool on the left-hand ( short fingers) so everything was easy to reach, just couldn't get right-hand in there, hopefully they made some adjustments. I also played an 8 string at the same time sound cool with the octaves, was going to buy one but a buddy of mine who owned a shop said he had acouple come back, necks bowing I guess not enough truss rod, something else would like to see again and updated, nothing like the sound of a Ric, it has its place.

Yep, the bridge string spacing on the Ric fiver was way too close IMO.

I never had one of the 8 string Rics, and I think one of the reasons is, there is no way to adjust the intonation of the smaller octave strings separately from the larger strings (each pair of strings on the Ric 8 string bass uses the same bridge saddle........not a good design).

Honestly, that is one of the toughest parts. It's so tempting to just sit and start noodling around. But I realize that if I do that I'll hit maybe 5 booths in the day. I kept telling myself that I'm a shark, and I have to keep moving.

I'm wondering where I'm going to find this bass! I'm at the Agencia Argentina de Inversiones y Comercio Intern, and I don't see any guitars or basses on display. But I go to the other side and I find it! Matias Crom. Link Removed

This guy mainly makes acoustic instruments, but he made this "Romantic Warrior". It is super gorgeous in person, and super light, too.

I forgot. On Sunday, as Tony was making his farewell tour, we passed by this booth and he checked out the bass. If you look closely at that case, it's designed to hold BOTH of those basses. There's a liner that goes between the two to prevent scratching. Both basses are so light, you can easily carry them in one case.

I think I'd try to photo everything I possibly could then go back and try whatever I could.
Just being there would be something, though.
