Dvd - i would of died, im being recorded for God Tv playing a (small i imagine to you guys in churches well over 1000)
500 capacity Hall in November its a gig called WORSHIP THE KING. Im terrified but im just gonna have fun and worship God!

The rickenbacker - wow!!!!!!!! im in love, even my wife loves it - which is a new thing in our marriage!

Cant rate this bass any more higher - its exactly what i want from a bass!

Testimonie of Me!

I struggled in school and life to be honest, this led to a real rollercoaster ride - i was stupid in my choices as they never led to the right result!

Until one day i had a revelation!

Growing up i always wanted something and normally it was girls and all iwanted was for them to see me like i was cool, it took me years to discover what was really out there!

1. Started Secondary school - (12yrs old)
Joined astronamy club in 1994 - No girls (there were some but i was more feminine if you catch my drift, lets say i had less facial hair!)

2. Learned the trombone in 1995- Some girls around the orchestra pit - Mostly from the geek end of life - no all were!

3. Learned the trumpet in 1995- Same girls, uncool to date these girls!

4. Learned double bass in 1996 - Same girls - YUCK!

5. Double bass teacher was late, bass guitar teacher was not! - started bass guitar in 1996 - New girls!

6. 1997 - we played Nirvana - "polly" and "smells like teen spirit" in the school play - CHA CHING - Girls everywhere and without the beards and pencil cases!

7. 1998 - started loads of bands and they all died!

8. 1999 - Blue fish - great band recorded a ep and we had fun! - i was dropped due to going to a girls house instead of practice.

Saw hundred of Gigs and met Fear factory and Hed p.e

9. 2000 - sold bass to buy weed and other drugs!!!!

10. 2001-2004 - working as a climbing and canoeing instructor and this was cool but i was also being a drug and drink dependant freak - like everyday!!!!!!!!

11. Easter 2004 - was evicted from my house due to being too loud and too many late night parties. so i went to church with my Girlfreind as it was easter sunday - i heard the gospel and became a christian

May 2004 - Gave up drinking and smoking! started reading the bible

12. January 2005 - Was asked by the worship leader if i would start Playing bass in the worship group at NLC - bought a bass that night on ebay - was a terrible piece of poop! - yucky jazz bass by westfield - 40kgs!!!! - thats a joke - maybe 20kgss

13. 1 September 2005 - got baptised in the sea - old school!

14. 2 September 2005 - got married to the girl who dragged me to church.

15. 2006 - began leading worship once a month

16. November 2006 - started a youth Church movement for 11 - 21yr olds called Oxygen - 10 decisons on the first night!

17. 2007 - Playing at worship events all around our county

18. I Lead worship with FOZ - lead singer of Audacious!

19. 5th September 2007 - decide to move away to the nearset city - will be informing Church on sunday that we are leaving!

20 - dont know yet but im excited with what God will do with me next!

Count Me In!

I'm the Band Leader at Lorimer Baptist Church in Dolton, Illinois and we play a mix of New Christian music, older standards, Christian Country, Gospel, Mpegs and hymns. I have Lakland 55-01 with a Detuner on the B string and a Music Man 4 string. I also switch to both lead and acoustic guitars on occassion depending on the need. I play thru a Peavey 210TVX or when I need more I bring in my Avatar B210 with a GK Backline 600. Even though the building holds between 500- 600 I've never had a problem being heard or felt.

We have some average singers and young inexperienced musicians which puts me in a unique position to both teach and mentor them. We have 2 guitar players, one also plays bass, 1 drummer who needs a lot of help as he's more passionate about cars than he is drums, one flutist, one percussionist (rarely there) and no keyboardist, as the last minister of music was dismissed (Long Story). We also just brought on board a Cello and Violin which I'm going to have to start writing charts for as they don't play by ear...Yet. We play 2 services per Sunday and here's why It's a unique situation for me, I'm the oldest musician being 49 and the next oldest is 23 down to 15. What makes it great is that they listen to me, trust me and count me as one of them because we share the same rock influences and desire to play and worship well.

I really like Isreal and New Breed, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Fred Hammond, Tye Tribbett, Michael W. Smith, Demon Hunter, Extol and others, however, we tend to struggle playing for a congregation that in my opinion is not only very conservative (not that it's a bad thing) but trying to get people to open up and freely rejoice is like pulling teeth. We are a multi-ethnic, Multi-racial, multi-cultural ministry and the balancing act gets to be quite a challenge especially when you interject the generation gap aspect... Boy did I go off on a tangent....forgive me.!

Every Sunday is an opportunity for us as bassist to use our talents and gifts to glorify God and I don't take that for granted.

Awesome CD, we do " 2(Nothing But The Blood) during commuion service.

use the wah from the korg for opening solo of Let it Rise..
bass starts,, 4 bars later drums and guitar, 2 more bars, keyboard and vocals,, and we wind it out pretty good too LOL

We're located in Sauble Beach Ontario Canada,, and have about 150 during the winter and over 400 during the summer..

also play in an acoustic band (everyone goes through the PA though),, alot of county styled tunes,, and 'rewritten' hymns..

all in all,, having a blast..

and thnks jivesound for setting up that board..

Woah, small world. I know people that go to church there. The Dekkers. They went to bible school with my parents and used to be elders in the church that my dad used to pastor. Do you know any of them? Harry, Judy with kids Nathen, Lauren and Hidi? I used to live in Wiarton and my dad was the pastor of Faith Tabernacle there.

I've been rehearsing for the last month and a half with the worship group from the church that i go to.I'm really pumped up about this however this is really new stuff for me and it's a little hard for me.I've been playing rock/metal since 1989 and i'm having a little bit of a hard time with some of the stuff that they play(Gospel/Latin).I hope i can get with the program by December so i can play by the Holidays.

So.........tips,words of advise/encouragement are always welcome and appreciated.

welcome to the "new world" of worship music! I think you will find it very different than other gigs you have played....I have focused on worship music for most of my playing, but I am by no means an expert....here are a few thoughts:

1) WHATEVER YOU DO - DO NOT FORGET THAT YOU ARE WORSHIPING GOD...not "just playing".

2) keeping that in mind, keep a worshipful presence while playing to keep from losing the focus.

3) in worship music "less REALLY is more" for many songs (not all - but many).

4) Worship songs are sometimes played in "wierd" keys (like Eb) be prepared for that which may mean playing in areas of your fretboard you are not currently comfortable with...

5) If you do not have one already, consider a 5 string...it will be invaluable in worship music (see #4 for one of the reasons!).

6) I think you need to focus more on "the team" in worship environments since you may have quite a few singers and may be dealing with more "moving parts" than you did in your past endeavors. make the TEAM sound good and you are doing your job - YOU do not have to be the focus....but if you make the TEAM sound good, you will be noticed!

7) If you lose your focus (or forget #1), take some time off to get back to the focus..

8) If you can, start listening to alot of Christian Music and, better yet, the songs you will play - it will spiritually get you set and will allow you to grow and become familiar with this "new genre"....

9) NEVER forget #1

I need to keep reminding me of these myself...

I've been playing at Puyallup Foursquare Church for a few years now.

I've been through a lot of basses looking for the right one for me, but I've found the right one in my G&L L2500 Tribute. I replaced the series/parallel switch with an outer coils/parallel/inner coils switch and that has opened up my tonal options in big ways!

Since then I've been trying to find the right amp modeling pedal or multieffects unit. I've tried a Sansamp Programmable BDDI and going direct, but here's the funny thing - I sounded best through my Behringer 300w combo amp! The center mid frequency is 630hz, and it turns out that scooping the mids at 630hz gives the perfect round tone and eliminates the resonant frequency problem I was having at church. I sold the Sansamp and bought a Hartke Bass Attack pedal which has a sweepable mid freqency notch filter. I can add tubey warmth and cut the mids at the right spot. I've also got a Korg AX3000B multieffects pedal board coming in the mail and I'm going to see how that works for me as well.

A great bass driven worship song is "Time Has Come". I don't know the artist. All I know is that I need to get the middle bass solo part down. I think I'm going to use Audacity to slow the song down and get that solo worked out.

My spiritual walk is really dry right now. I haven't been consistent in the Word or in prayer or in worship. I don't listen to Christian music. My motivation for practice is low. I think I need an authentic encounter with Jesus. I do believe but there's no passion there and I'm pretty sure I've been going through the motions for a long time. If you guys wouldn't mind praying for me about this I'd really appreciate it.

I think this is a misunderstanding between religion and relationship.

"Religious" people make their religions their identities and so tend to sport them just like a Steelers fan in a jersey or some kid wearing an AC/DC t-shirt.

People who have a relationship with Jesus want to share it just like married people often want to talk about their spouses or parents like talking about their kids. We also desire fellowship and community which is what this thread is about.

No one here is going to hate you for your misunderstanding. Do you have any questions about Christianity?
