Wow. The T-bird I played didn't dive as badly as I expected it to -- I'd say it "sought horizontal" or maybe very slightly below -- but it did require some conscious counterbalance with the right arm or moment of support with the left hand (which I don't like to do). It didn't stay put the way the one in this vid does.
Pretty much ANY Gibson or Epiphone Thunderbird...hence I bought a Mike Lull T5 (zero neck dive issues there!).
Just tie a bootlace to the headstock and your strap and bypass the top horn button.Any Gibson...
Extremely comfortable strap that I use on all of my Warwick's, including both of my Thumbs and have no issues with neck dive.My beloved Warwick thumb 5 bolt-on. Sounds amazing and plays beautifully but won't sit right on the strap.
I have always hated Ovations! Worst neck dive I have is on my LEFTY Gibson SG Standard electric guitar- the HP version, with the robo tune. Serious neck dive! Sounds and looks awesome though! My lefty SG bass on the other hand is awesome, I would not change a thing- great versatile tones and a light instrument without neck dive!
I here you about a Vox... I have a Spyder IV, hollow body violin shape and the head stock is so big and heavy. It just nose dives straight to the floor, but like you said, 15 and 1965. Bought it new in 1968 as I traded in my Hagstrom F200 bass for the Spyder. Wish I kept the Hag. Great neck.Vox Phantom IV. You know, Fang's bass (Paul Revere and the Raiders). And heavy as hell. Neck played like a 2x4, and went straight to the floor. Also sounded like kicking an empty box around the room. All the right reasons to buy one, right? But when you're 15 and it's 1965, you end up buying what's cool at the time.
1968 Precision Bass - it had an awful neck dive. But on the plus side - wolf tones galore. What's the absolute worst neckdive you've ever experienced in a bass? ...snip...
