Would you take this gig?

If all pro band, I’d definitely take that gig. There’s a bunch of tunes in there that seem fun to learn. Aside from current dance pop, 70s dance music would be my choice. What I’ve been declining lately is classic rock and blues rock. So sick of bands trying to make that work when you already know that it won’t

Agreed. The drummer is tight. Singer’s good & also plays sax. It could be a real good times party band. And it’s exactly my style.

I think my biggest fear is that we’re good & it turns into more commitment... Tough problem to have, lol.
I say you deal with that when and if it happens. No reason to look too far down the road. Life is short.

At my age, it would have to pay well (meaning just the occasional private party), and the drummer and lead singer would have to be very good. Otherwise, no thanks. Your mileage may vary.

. I was doing the funky cover band thing 40 years ago, and I don't have any desire to go back and play the kind of places we played in then.

It's about the music, the money, and the hang. For me I'm a little tired of playing covers, so even though this setlist has some very cool music on it, on it's own it wouldn't make me go for it unless at least one of the other two factors was a positive.

You said you have given up gigging and now have an opportunity you might have a hard time passing up. What does it matter if we’d take it? Will you? What are the issues that made you give up gigging and what are the chances those issues are lurking in the wings on this project? Think before you leap back into the pool. If you don’t want it, call @kesslari I’ve seen him play and he’d crush this gig.

A while back I decided to give up gigging altogether... no more concerts, festivals, benefits or church gigs. I must admit, it's been a peaceful couple of months.

A few weeks ago, a drummer friend of mine stopped by my office and told me he wanted to put together a funk band. Apparently in his mind, I'm the only choice for bass. He asked if I was interested and I didn't commit to anything. I just told him to keep me in the loop.

Fast forward to this past weekend, and he's put together a pretty decent lineup of musicians. He also sent me the potential setlist. Granted, this list is a starting point, but you can see where he's going with it. Sound system is set. 1-2x per month gig starting in 2024, so nothing crazy.

Based on this list of tunes, would you take the gig?

I’m not saying I just ganked your set list but I’d probably take the gig, sure.
