Would you take this gig?

Fast forward to this past weekend, and he's put together a pretty decent lineup of musicians. He also sent me the potential setlist. Granted, this list is a starting point, but you can see where he's going with it. Sound system is set. 1-2x per month gig starting in 2024, so nothing crazy.

Based on this list of tunes, would you take the gig?

If the band is decent enough and you don't see any personality conflicts after feeling them a few times, it sounds like a good situation. Before committing, I'd ask the BL for a band meeting to go over his goals and talk about what the rest of band is looking for. If he's willing to do that as a group and the responses ease your concerns, I'd go for it. The music isn't really what I'm into, but it's a great song list that will get a crowd up and dancing and, as a bass player, I love it when what I'm playing gets people up and dancing.

that's a cool set list, however, for me, I personally don't have the time to invest in a start-up. If it was an already established gig that was great pay, I'd be all over it. That being said, if you have the time, and they're all great players and really cool people, sure. One thing though, the drummer better off the hook crazy good to hang on a gig like this.

Great list of songs. Sure to suck in the hands of anything but the world’s greatest covers bands. The material is so good that I’d do it for free…but I wouldn't go on stage with that material unless that band was truly the real deal. And if I was in a club and a band started doing anything but top-notch versions of those songs, I’d get some combination of sick to my stomach and angry, and go somewhere else. You can suck or be mediocre at rock music, and it won’t phase me very much, but mediocre funk bands are offensive to me.

Excellent circumstances too! Plenty of time to nail the songs down (which you probably know already) and 1-2x a month is a well-paced gigging schedule for someone like myself, not sure if that schedule's a plus or not to you. Set list is great too...but I'd pitch a fit about not including "Treasure" by Bruno Mars too ;)

Plenty of time for trying out the band until 2024 rolls around, have fun and keep us in the loop!

I played in a band with Most of the same songs,lots of work! Turned out the husband and wife band leaders were difficult people, too many players and not enough money
A variety band looked better on paper....

That's a fun-looking set list. I suppose my question is how you feel about gigs. I was recently in a band that played this style of music and there wasn't a huge market for it. Most of the people that identify with this stuff aren't going out to watch live bands a lot (this includes me!) So unless there's venues with built-in crowds that dig this you might find your experience to be like mine, which is playing to sparsely populated rooms and people only getting up to dance to 3 or 4 songs throughout the night.

Looks like a list that has some great songs. Mainly I see it as finding out who he has as the other musicians. Personalities and abilities.

When it comes to gigging, playing the music is the easy part.

It's the herding of adult cats to stay on mission and message along with the business of performing is where most of the questions are.
