Wrap My SX

http://www.axewraps.com/

This is not as involved it looks like, but basically the same idea.

I thought about only covering the "face" only, but I wanted a "full wrap". Sides and back included in the design.

Try this... not so easy!

No! Frog Juice is terrible stuff! If you have film laminate available, why not use it for the entire job? If anything get an edge sealer (basicly frog juice in a convenient pen) for the edges and thats it.

I've done 2 guitars now, the only problem that I've found is the weight of the added sticker. The seams, with use and abuse of touring and what not, starting to curl. Tone is of no issue for obvious reasons of the guitar being used.

Dumbass me, I really don't have any good shots of the guys with the finished guitars.

These were the designs used.

I used a film laminate on the back only. The 1st try was with vinyl/film laminate, but the horns were mofo's. So we wrapped without film lam. Yes, edge sealer was used. The way I'm looking at this is... hell, if it curls after a while, I'll wrap it with another design.
I'd love to see a few pics of your wraps. So I take it you've done some window perfs?

These are about the only half decent photos I have of the finished guitars.

Yes I have delt with window perf. That stuff is certainly fun to contour. I've been in the sign biz for 10 years or so. I'll wrap anything that I can. Did a motorbike helmet a few months ago. Also just finished wrapping a buddies Terra-Jet ATV.

I wanted to update wrapping my SX. I have learned allot so far of what I will do differently next wrap. I'll be wrapping this one again during the Christmas holidays. Removing the vinyl will be no problem at all. If there is adhesive left on the body, I have a safe product to remove it. Here are some things I'll change.
I should have most of the bugs worked out by then end of the year. My designer is already working on a new design. Do y'all see anything I need to improve on?

Removed electronics

See copper foil tunnel?

Shielding completed

SX killer bass. Killer Flag wrap. PLUS copper shielding even with tunnels. New pots. BASS TO DIE FOR! And YOU are going to rip it apart and do it again? I think I'm going to cry!

Cripes! Sell this one and buy 3 or 4 more from Rondo. ;)

Oh no, for sure the full wrap is better, but its not a do-it-yourself thing everyone could do.

You are onto something I think if you can get the time and labor down to a point where you can crank them out. It is also a kind of built in protection since the entire body is wrapped. The customization is endless.
Very cool.

I would put a Boa or Python wrapped around it. Have the tail coming out under the bridge and the head just behind the upper hon or wrap the body and neck with the tail starting at the nut wrapping around until the head is laying next to the bridge.

Or do it as if the bass is a limb with a green tree python coiled in its normal pose.

I road tested the American flag wrap on my SX. Gigged a few times and practiced a bunch. The wrap is still looking good and holding up well. I didn't know what to expect... There were a few flaws, not perfect like I wanted it. But no one can see it until you study the wrap up close. Still, all and all, I'm very happy with the American flag bass. One good thing is... having a dozen basses so far, no more Gassin'!!!! I get tired of the (wrapped) bass, I'll just re-wrap the sucker in a new design!! The wrapping is the easy part, takes about 2 hours of vinyl work. BTW. I have come up with a price if anyone is interested. PM me. I figured time and materials, so not too bad $$$ wise. You'll have to pay shipping both ways to Dallas. The horns can't be to pointed like my EB-0 or Longhorn.

So... I'm wrapping my T-Bird in a Texas flag print. This time I laminated the print before applying the vinyl.
Here is the back... front should be done in a few days

Starting to mold vinyl on the front

Not as easy as it looks!!!

This is the tedious part... but that's what I pay this guy for... Awesome vinyl guy! We're busy as hell making signs and I still make him do this..

Next to put a sharp blade in the X-acto and trim her :hyper:

Only one of theses: I left White PG at shop and was planning to put it on. I think it will make the print pop out! Looks good off too.

Next wrap, instead of molding the vinyl around the body with squeegees and fingers, I found a way to mold the vinyl around the bass using gravity and well placed heat. I'm really excited about this... kinda like a vacuum mold.:bassist:
