XLNT SUPER CHEAP bass overdrive

I keep my joyo for a heavier overdrive. It's fairly light in terms of drive, but comparing it with something real transparent it had a bit more aggressive attack. It sounds great on guitar or bass though. Being that my board pulls double duty, I don't see it going anywhere in the near future.

Did my first gig with it...it KILLED! I find it to be right in line with my clean sound. And the tone knob takes that trebly edge that blows tweeters off of it when it's set at noon, and takes off even more if you want. Makes me wonder why all distortion pedals don't have a way to roll off those highs. Didn't get to try it at its highest settings to see if it'll work in place of my TAFM, but that's coming. Can't wait to get my Greedtone clone back to do a shootout. Not that I'm rushing you or anything, John ;)

It does, and the B7K is a hiss machine at most settings.

That said, the B3K is the only bass drive I've ever loved the sound of, next to James Lomenzo Hyperdrive, which I thought was pretty cool for less than $100.

I'll have to try out one these Joyo's, even if it has an angry oni painted on it. :rolleyes:

I just got an MXR SmartGate to stop my hiss. I know some people don't like gates, but for me, this was perfect. I basically have it at the lowest level, so it doesn't squash my tone or make me play harder or anything like that, it just makes everything quiet when I'm not playing. My hiss was never so bad to be distracting while playing, especially in a full band setting, but for a cheap solution, I think I got mine like $40 used or something.

And in line with this thread, I just ordered my Ultimate Drive! $32.02 on Amazon. With an official endorsement by JimmyM, it has to be quality! ;)

Yeah. Also, a store that I order stuff from has them. They are kind of local as in an hour roundtrip from my house. But, I can't be bothered to drive there on the weekend with family obligations and all so they mailed it to me and I will have it soon. Therefore, I even get to encourage a "local" shop in the process.

The rise in the number of cheap pedals has me GASsing pretty badly. I must stop window shopping. A mini Xotic AC booster?... GREAT! A $40 analog chorus?..GREAT! An $85 digital wireless system?... GREAT! A tiny Mooer Orange Phaser?...GREAT!...

AND I WANT SMALLER SO I CAN HAVE MOOOOAR!!!!
