Yamaha Peter Hook Signature Bass

To be fair, that is accurate to the old BBs too. The BB1200, 2000, and 1200S all only have two options. Sunburst and natural for the 1200 and 2000 and burgundy and green for the 1200S. Still though, why offer more for the cheaper basses and less for the high end ones?
I have seen a couple of BB1200s/BB2000's in black. JJ Burnel had one and so did the fella out of Ultravox Bonhams : Ultravox: Chris Cross's Yamaha BB1200 bass guitar,

Unless they did a paint job or it was custom?

I recall seeing that one on Reverb, nice grab even in the condition it's in. What ended up being wrong with the preamp, do you know? I've seen a few others online have issues with theirs but they never end up saying what the problem was.
Problem was whoever added the j pickup had no idea what they were doing and didn't wire it correctly. I need to take it to a luthier though because the passive tone knob cuts all volume if I take it below 5.
