You know you're a bass player if...

- While playing tennis you found yourself slapping the racket between matches.

- You've unconsciously misopronounced the name of a fish with a familiar spelling.

- You've parked your car in a parking lot that didn't have any parking space lines and went, "Ooh, fretless!"

- Your WindowsXP user icon is that bass guitar.

- You cheered or laughed loudly at the cello-bass guitar scene in the movie "School of Rock."

- While at a car dealership and looking at a pickup truck, you ask if it's got a P or a J.

Come on folks, feel free to add.

Those apply to me :P

I remember once... I had a sticker on the back of my car saying "Beware of the bass player" some guy drove up and asked me "Are you the bass (fish pronounciation) player" that was pretty funny...

All of these have happened to me in the past couple of years ive been playing bass!

You know youre a bassist when:

you jump off stage in the middle of a gig and go to the bar, drink a few pints and go back up stage a few songs later to find no one realised you were missing.

your guitarist thinks bass is easy, but when they try it their fingers hurt after a couple of notes.

you find yourself stopping to talk to every bassist you past (as i did when i walked through the music tech part of my college!)

your equipment is so much heavier than the rest of the band's

someone asks you a question about the band and you reply "dont ask me, im only the bassist"

you yell at people for asking where the other 2 strings on your guitar are.

your guitarists complain about the price of strings, you laugh synically

you have a heated, passionate debate about where you play your bass and argue angrily when someone suggests you position it a couple of inches lower.

the floor shakes if you turn your amp half way up.

I can't stand it when guitarists complain about the prices of their strings.

Right??
The other day while packing up after a gig, one of the guitarists noticed that I had "only 2 extra packs of strings" in my case. He announced that he always has at least 6 packs of new strings in his bag. I threw him a set, he looked at the price tag still affixed to the pack ( Elixirs, btw) and looked at me with this look--> <--!
I then asked him if he would like to buy me the other 4 sets so that I could meet his standards! He, of course, said "Hell No!".
At least that shut him up!

Yeah. My guitarists always gag when I tell them the price of my strings. Mind you, in Italy a set of D'Addario chromes is about $40, and DRs are around $50-$60 per set. I only buy there if absolutely necessary. I usually order from Juststrings.com but have bought locally due to necessity.

Edit: I don't even want to know how much LaBellas and TIs cost here.

You know you're a bass player when:

You get mad when nobody tells you what to play, and when they do, you yell at them.

Whenever you talk about musicians, everybody in the room goes "Who?"

When you explain the above musicians you're talking about, people respond with a "never heard of them."

You respond to the above comment with a "you suck."

You're watching American Idol and wondering why Randy is judging and not in the band.

You've ever expected Neo to take out a Fender P and start clubbing Agent Smith with it.

You watch School of Rock and wonder, "Why the heck isn't there a bass solo? This movie needs a bass solo!"

...you have to duck when getting on a Chicago 'El' train so as not to take out the headstock end of your backpack gig bag. :D (Mind you, it took getting knocked back onto the platform a few times to figure that out. )

Been here, done this. It hurts too. Try fire exit doors, swing doors, really old buildings...
Also, you know you're a bassist when you're sitting typing this with a fingerpick on. Guilty:bassist: :D

tell me about it!! came home from the pub, blind drunk, 2am, cranked up my amp, woke up pretty much the whole street. still it was worth it! it the kind of effect you can only get from a bass!

I live in an apartment. The person above me doesn't really care. We kinda have this unspoken agreement it seems, 'cause he blasts terrible techno at ungodly hours. My next door neighbor must be pissed though.

man.. my upstairs neighbor blasts crap techno at like 3 am and is either constantly moving furnitur or having really rough sex... and then he sees me in the lobby and gets in my face about playing bass during the day
