you look like a bass player

Yes, I've gotten this comment before, several times in fact. Each time I asked the person what about me made them assume I played bass and none of them have been able to give a specific reason, it's usually "I don't know, you just do." :eyebrow:

Yup, get it all the time. Maybe it's because.....

- On the wrong side of 40
- 6' 1" 240
- receding hair line
- the "go to" guy when stuff breaks
- the only one in the band who knows how to setup the PA
- I carry the biggest amp (by myself)
- better rhythm than the drummer
- play that pounding stuff that makes the chicks dance
- has the best music theory knowledge in the band
- actually knows more chords than the guitards
- knows what syncopation means
- understands dynamics

Haha. Went in to record our CD last summer, and the guy who owns the studio and doing the production looks at me as I walk in for the first time and says "hey, you must be the bass player!" I look at our singer, the only guy there and the only guy the producer knows at that point, and he just shrugs. The producer can tell I'm a bit baffled, so he says, "you can just tell." I took it as a complement!?

yea pretty lolsy moment

unnamed person: Hey you a musician?
me: yeah
Unnamed person: what do you play?
me: bass
Unnamed person: I thought you were a musician?
me: i am
Unnamed person: well i'm talking about musicians with talent

I just laughed and went on my way

no one ever told me that :'(, i believe its because when people look at me they imedeatly think, u must be a cool idiot. what can I do?

A lot of my friend didn't know i played guitar or bass when i first brought the bass they only said to me: " didn't knew you play guitar" i only reponse: "IT'S A BASS" why is the bass so underrated? all the bassist should do a strike for one they, and then i would ask? did you like the music without bass? and of course you know the awnser

sorry the bad english and the long text but i was a bit upset with this.

People never peg me for a bass player... I am tall, lanky, cleanshaven, usually sport a casual mod look I guess, sometimes a bit gothy (old school post-punkish), look younger than my years, and it used to be that people would most often mistake me for a piano/keyboard player. Then occasionally people would ask if I played guitar. Now most often people think I am a drummer. Maybe it's because I am always doing my best awful Gene Krupa or Cozy Cole impression on random objects and surfaces around me... Maybe I need to learn to play drums...

Anyone ever have that said to them?

I was in the bar earlier today with people in my class, who i've only known about a month, we were talking about bands and gigging, i mentioned i'd been in a few bands over the years...and they all said they reckoned i played bass as i "look like a bass player".

I wasn't offended or anything i just found it very curious, and when i asked them why i looked like a bass player, they could only reply with "eh, you just do!".

I once had a person ask me if I played guitar which I replied,

"Yes!"

In a very deep, BASS tone.

lol

As much as I love playing lead guitar it still isn't close as to what I feel when I play bass!
