I tend to clean up a lot of a crap that is left by these "we love nature" idiots who go out camping. It's damn near embarrassing to tell people you are from the Bay now. For example, i was going to Vegas for wedding 2 weeks ago, and i took my drive through X12 zone (mono county) I camped up in our regular hunting/camping spot over night. I brought a 1 trash bag with me for garbage, my first hour in the camp was spent filling up my trash bag with trash other people left. Plastic bags, hello kitty diapers, tie-dye shirts, broken hulu-hoops etc.. The trash bag was full plus stuff i put in the car to take down to the dump.


As i said, it's damn embarrassing, many people down in the bay talk about the earth, but the same people go out to "nature" and trash it. Then they complain about hunters killing deer, yet they trash the nature and we, the Bambi killers walk around and pick up their trash and stop the forest fires they are about to start. I killed 3 fires last year that were left by these idiots who left camp with out putting out the fire.

Really don't like what this place is becoming. Note it's not all are like this, but that's what stands out about bay area to California people outside the cities.

I do however disagree with the basic premis of this post. Yes there are some real hypocrites from the Bay Areas that say one thing and do another. I know that there is at least a little hypocricy in all of us. Those who say they are not are either decieving themselves or are liars.
Regarding garbage, I'm not saying that all of us leave garbage around for other people to pick up. But it seems as if you are saying that the only the people who do this are Prius driving Bay Area residents who give lip service to conservation. I don't accept the fact that no locals or hunters are guilty of the same thing. Within every group of people you will find some who are basically good and honest and trying their best to do what is right and others who don't give a fart in a bathtub for others and our world.

Im a firm believer of "Pack it in, pack it out".
However, I am not from the Bay area, nor do I drive a Prius.

I got to go to men's retreat in Sonora Ca, over the weekend. Their were x-gang members from San Jose, Bikers from Carson City Nevada, guys in hunting vests from Ft. Bragg, Urban residents like me and everything in between. About 300 guys and we all got a long great and had a really good time.
There was 6 other guys with me and we were the most diverse group. Three white guys, one African amercan, two asians, and one Philipino. We were having dinner with two guys from Auburn who were surprised we were from San Francisco. One guy said he thought everyone from San Francisco was a smug urban proffessional. We are a bunch of fun loving guys and really enjoyed our time at dinner. I did appreciate his complement but am bothered that people from San Francisco get stereotyped.
I also met an 80-year old man who rode his bicycle from Rocklin Ca, to Sonora. That is a 113 mile ride with a climb of about 1,500 feet. I'm not worthy. :p

Cool, me too. You see there even a Los Angelino knows better than leaving garbage laying around. :hiding::p
I was being a little sarcastic about stereotypes with my comment about the Prius. Mind you I have nothing against people who drive them, I just think really cool people drive 14-year old Honda CRV's. :p

I think it should be general understanding that when someone says "people like X do this" they don't mean all or just that group but rather example. :) I know not all people from bay litter, i am from the bay and i don't.

I was more or less saying that a lot of people from big city (such as cities in the bay and very much Fresno, Stockton, etc) are the ones who are littering. Percentage wise, i'd say majority of litter comes from people in the big cities rather then locals. By no means i mean that it's one group or another, was just trying to use one group that stands out as example.

Garbage i picked up 2 weeks ago came from several groups. I don't see hippies having hello kittie diapers and bags and dolls. Nor do i see group of people that love all things hello kittie to wear tie-dye tshirts. :) One thing they do have in common is that more then likely they are not local to the place where they still have people riding horses to drive cattle for living.

There are definitely hunters that litter, but again, majority of what I've seen come from the city.


I just hate anyone that litters equally. I also hate very much that I am part of a group (by location) that does it.

There is a plus side of littering though. I love finding items from 1800's and early 1900's such as brass, old cans, etc. It's kinda cool. So who knows, maybe i am destroying history for our kids who will find hello kittie diaper 100 years from now and go "OH COOL, I remember my grandfather saying "you kids have it good nowadays, when i was your age i had to wear hello kittie diapers!""

I'd love hear more about this as I'm not familiar with "men's retreats." It would make for a great thread.

Well, it does involve religion which is a no no around here. Maybe I can start one and avoid that subject. :hiding: I slept in a bunkhouse with 23 other guys. You can imagine the cacaphony of snores. It was intresting at one point all of the snores seemed to be in sync rythmically.
One time all the snoring stopped at once for a brief period and then all resumed at the same time. I told they guys they needed to work on their pitch though, a lot of them were different keys.:p Boy am I glad I bought ear plugs with me.

Our garbage cans have a total of 8 compartments for:
  • Compost
  • Newspapers
  • Paper packaging
  • Plastic packaging
  • Metal packaging
  • Coloured glass
  • Clear glass
  • Combustible.
Then there's the ancillary box for small batteries and light bulbs.

Anything beyond those has to be taken to the recycling central where there's an additional 7 or 8 categories.
