You opened for WHOM???

This past Tuesday night we opened for Gene Loves Jezebel (the version with Jay Aston + other original members) in Sacramento... Despite my tonsillitis and sinus infection, I had a good time and only messed up a couple times, and people said we sounded very good. GLJ were fantastic, and Kirk Brandon (Theatre of Hate & Spear of Destiny) did a great solo acoustic set between the two bands. He reminded me of a younger Roger Daltrey.

Let's see,

The Doobie Brothers
Robert Cray
Johnny Winter
Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers
Tommy Castro
Daniel Castro
Joe Louis Walker
Curtis Salgado
Robben Ford and the Ford Brothers
Norton Buffalo
Roy Rogers
Corby Yates
Coco Montoya

That's just the last 4-5 years with my Blues/R&B group Rhythm Deluxe off the top of my head.

Wow I can't believe how long this thread has been going ...
Anyway, the last band I used to play with when I lived in SoFla, was a sort of fusion metal trio by the name Shape Shifter. We played with a lot of local metal bands in the mid '90s. However, the only band that we opened for that was a national act was Cannibal Corpse.

Their bass player, Alex Webster, hung out and watched us play. Afterwards, we spoke for a little while and he seemed really interested in how I was playing so fast with only 2 fingers on my picking hand (AW plays with three fingers to achieve those fast runs). So we talked about playing technique for a little bit, the whole situation had a bit of twisted irony to it. All in all it was a very cool experience... :bassist:

my band opened up for Jamie Ross (apparently she's performed on the disney channel?). that was like 3 years ago. we'd been together like 6 months and drew a crowd of maybe 10-15 and they all left after us. i felt kinda bad cause here's this girl and her band on a small tour and starting to break through and no one's staying to watch her.
