I just get sick of people telling me what I've experienced, time for a break from here.

Rickenbackers are certainly not flying off the shelves in Virginia, I can tell you that with certainty.

People have different experiences in life that form their opinions. Clearly you have your own, and I have mine. Rickenbackers are selling someplace, or they'd stop making them, but it's not happening in my neck of the woods.

This is the main reason I edit or delete posts, because someone comes along and urinates all over your posts & try & make it as if you're 100% wrong.

Since you said "basses" and not just electric, I was assuming a DB would be on my list, since it's a mainstay for rockabilly, bluegrass and jazz. Add to that a two pickup passive (my Ripper, a decent P/J or even a decent P) and a two pickup MM, probably a Stringray or Sterling HS 5-string.

I didn't once tell you what you experienced. I may have questioned what you perceived to be a reality, but I didn't say 2 basses didn't sell the week after Lemmy died (like you experienced). I questioned whether people would actually go out and drop $1800 on a bass because he died though. Absolutely. If they did, they're weirdos.

If I was to choose three basses out of my herd that would cover most of what I'm doing, I would choose my Fender J for obvious reasons, my L2500 - neck pickup soloed makes a decent P'ish sound, plus my 2012 Sandberg fretless J with flats. That should do the trick.

Similarly - all needs covered (other than having a hollow body electric and my preference would be for an old Gibson).
1. Fender Deluxe American J bass
2. Modulus Q5 with cocobolo top and EMGs.
3. Modulus Bassstar Fretless 4
4. 1954 Kay C-1 Upright.

What I've got now fill the 3 categories I find necessary.

Passive 4-string; Fender P
Active 5-string; Warwick Fortress One
Fretless; Stingray 4

I GAS for a Sterling 5-string to replace my Warwick someday...


Edit: this doesn't include my upright bass needs. Otherwise lose the fretless stingray and add an upright setup for both jazz and classical gigs.

I was at Sam Ash in NYC yesterday with Larry Hartke. He told me that Rickenbacker doesn't make their money from basses and guitars at all. Apparently the family is one of the largest land owners out West and that is why they are so bad to their customers and distributers. Who knows...

Let's lay it out. I'm cheap. So for what you would pay for say 1 Rickenbacher, I can buy 10 SX basses for. SO why pick only 3?

Oddly enough, I wouldn't go all SX though...

Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass V Special 5 string PJ.
Otherwise, I am mostly a 4 string player.
SX Ursa 3 RN 3TS, with the new headstock please... Still waiting for them to come in stock!
Ibanez SR500

I know, not everyone's dream stable, but it would work great for me...
