First Bass - A really heavy clunky thing I borrowed from a friend's brother, and he originally bought it for £6. It had "Custom" written on the headstock and one tiny shiny metal pickup, Fender P-Bass shape..

First Bassline - Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix

First bass...a p-bass parts bass that I put together myself with quality parts:

maple neck, rosewood fretboard, walnut skunk stripe
alder body
Schaller tuners
LQ BAII bridge
EMG pickups
all hardware black chrome.

First bassline...I learned the entire Bad Company "best of" album. Then I think I did SMB, and the Doobie's, and learned some Louis Johnson licks, as well.

actually, it starts with a long series of quarter notes, but has a nice little groove to it. Deep purple had an incredible bass player, although his name, escapes me, at the moment.

ironically, since the record was vinyl and I didn't start playing bass until about 1990-91...I haven't listened to that album since about 1980 or so...

and I don't listen to much rock music at all anymore. Nevertheless, the remnants of DP are still kicking strong...Roger and Ian Paice are still laying down the rhythms and Ian Gillan is still singing, and with Steve Morse on Guitar, I'll bet that they're still killer!

My first bass was a cheap 4-string J-bass imposter manufactured by a company named Magnum. The color of the bass was metallic blue with a white pickguard, and my mother paid $135 for the bass at a local music store named Hewitt Music. That was 25 years ago.

The first bass line I learnt was "Must be the Music" by Secret Weapon. Oddly, I still play this song on the bass every now and then.
