Your Look On Stage

when i did the casino thing, it was black dress pants and what I call "barber shirts," short sleeve dress shirts you can wear un tucked.

But now I am free. I play in a rock cover bar band in Phoenix and it's shorts, tennis shoes and t-shirts. I've been wearing dickies work shirts (with the sleeves rolled up) to keep some kind of button down look, but everyone else just wears T's. So I finally ordered 8 funky tees for stage.

When it cools off, I like to do the reservior dogs white shirt, black narrow tie, black jacket thing.

Still need to drop 60 pounds to start really looking good on stage.

These are from a cabaret gig I did a few nights ago. Clothing was kind of dictated for me as the theme was black and white formal with a coloured tie, but it's what I usually wear on stage anyway. I'm rocking a black shirt, dark purple tie, black pants, black heeled boots and a striped black fedora. Also, I'm playing my new Warwick Fretless Corvette Std. 4-string. :bassist:

Bump for help :)

I consider myself challenged when it comes to a look. I'm mid 50's and everything is sagging :) I've taken to the reversed baseball cap and shades look. I don't actually like it but the band does so there you have it. i think my bass is very cool and always gets peoples attention and you can't beat red :)At least my singer takes peoples eyes off of me :)

Make the main thing the main thing.

Music isn't just noise, it's a message and a mood. The source of this message is at least half the message. On the radio, it's the tone of the instruments, live it's the people and the tone.

Why is Tiny Tim's version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow different from Iz's? (and Kermit's?)

I usually wear purple.

Bright muthafudgin' purple.

And I try to look totally bored with everything.

People seem to like it.

Just imagine a slightly short, ginger haired, [DEL]seventeen[/DEL] eighteen year old guy who's wearing purple and looks really bored with what he's doing. There you have it. D:

Edit, dear God, I've been eighteen since the fourth of May and I STILL can't get it right.

Everything from shorts and tee shirts to business casual and even tuxedos. Whatever is appropriate, and when possible, allowing for personal choice and stylistic sensibilities, and at times just sheer pragmatism.

There are gigs where I would not think for a second that anything less than a tuxedo was appropriate and expected. I have also done gigs where a tee shirt and shorts of the most comfortable and moisture-wicking variety was the most pragmatic and rational clothing choice.

I play enough gigs and with enough different kinds of bands, and in enough situations where there is no one "right" answer or "wrong" answer that applies to all of them equally.

Hang on to that being 17 thing, it don't last and when you realize it, it's to late. Don't end up like me 57 trying to 18. It's just sad.

My look for my country band is Cowboy shirt, boot cut pants, and cowboy boots. I did alot of theater as a kid, and I've always felt that getting into a look, or costume, was part of the fun of being in a band.

For rock, it's converse, slim jeans and a snug t-shirt (band or vintage). Of course, that's pretty close to what I wear outside of work anyway, so am I always in costume?
