Your Look On Stage

Clean look, nobody looks like bums. Nice gear too.

This looks like a blues operation, it gets real tricky with Pop Rock, a little more challenging for the 55+ bass players.

And indeed it is ... a blues gig

From a road trip we recently made over in Arkansas ... for KASU radios "Blue Monday" series.

The "look" right down to my trademark VOX curly cord is to evoke the vibe and feel of a blues band that is there to entertain an audience. The gear on stage except for Darrens guitar and amp (and he uses vintage style gear) is all mine ... we use my micro drum kit on many road trips (it was a "bucket" thing I took up last year) my amp cabs are ... well I'll let you guess on that.

All bands IF your at a certain level (or aspire to be), you are there on stage to entertain, your look should fit your genre, we would look kinda silly trying to pull off death metal dressed as we are ... but our look sends a visual clue to even the most casual observer that we are "blues" oriented, and it's age appropriate. If your 23 and going for that indie hipster look you should know what your intended audience expects you to look like ... same for metal, rock, country ... anything.

Sorry to cut up your post, but I wanted to grab the key points.

I think you guys have it nailed, couldn't agree more with what you said.

It's funny, Darren J. spent some time in the DC area, and while he was playing with Stacy Brooks he and I traded mails - in response to a CL ad (not sure if it was his ad or mine). He wanted to get a side thing going on, I checked out his site and so on and was impressed. I think I came off as not very available at the time as my main band was busy so nothing came of it unfortunately. Of course I now find myself in two bands.....

Anyway I remember when I looked at his website, and showed to to some others, the way he presented himself, and his Florida band, impressed me and my friends. When compared to my band The Darren J. Trio just "looked" like they were ready to take it up a notch from your typical bar/pub blues band.

I still try to impress that upon my bandmates, but I am a lone voice on this issue.

I wore flip flops last night to a gig for the 1st time (first time in general wearing them to a bar) it was just WAY too hot out and this place is known to be stuffy . . . was kinda nice actually - except for my cable getting stuck under my foot :D

For summer Flip Flops are fine, because you can still be somewhat dressy and wear them.

Vintage Low Jeans, white tailored shirt or T Shirt (with a higher cut neck). A couple of arm bracelets and a some kind of cool jewelry (a choker, a cool one )

Off Topic

I saw Jeff Beck last night, he had on a sleeveless logo T-Shirt and jeans, but he was wearing suspenders with the jeans. It looked very cool.

That's me on stage having loads of fun ...

big baggy dickies shorts (black, green or gray), random black band t-shirt (bad brains, ramones, coalesce, etc,), and whatever shoes/boots come out of the closet when i reach in.

i play whichever bass suits my fancy that day, though it's usually either the SB-2 or the sticker-covered rockbass 'vette.

ps - i play hardcore punk. :)

normally I would agree - it was just soo damn hot out, and this particular place is a hot box to begin w/ . . . I gave up a little fashion to not deal w/ sweating uncontrollably all night.

wasn't soo bad (and the singer was wearing them too):

Well, this was just my personal feelings for me particularly. Some guys judge a little harshly on stage attire around here. I am not one of those guys.

And I will say that I'd rather see a guy with flip flops than barefoot.

i like to wear a subtly humorous tshirt.
for instance when playing a screamo gig, i might choose to wear my
'Mr. Happy' shirt.

You guys already know that I am very age sensative (57).

Here is a good example of what happens when you to get to be my age.

I have no idea what "Screamo" is. And to make it worse I don't want to know what it is.
