Your prettiest bass

and for woodgrain...

I know I'm in the minority on this, but bass players are friggin' weird. Do surgeons ever think about their prettiest scalpel? Carpenters about their prettiest hammer? It's a tool, just use it!

I see it quite differently. Music is art and in art, aesthetics matter (in my subjective opinion) and, if performing, it is show business so visuals can be of value there as well (granted not many people would pay attention to basses other than maybe what color it is) - the same could be applied to how we dress for gigs.
I know some fine woodworkers and they are passionately into their tools...

You are right, basses are a tool. Their only purpose is to allow the musician to make music, but you got to admit, some look better than others.

Actually, as a now retired carpenter, I can definitely say that I do possess the world’s sexiest hammer. An undisputed fact.

Can't pick just one. This one's probably the 2nd prettiest in terms of condition (some dents/dings when you get closer) but definitely the main player. Alien Audio Lunar 5

This is the least expensive (at least before the heavy mods :D) but probably the prettiest and most unique. Squier VM P5 w/genuine Fender bass humbucker in bridge, pot/cap/jack upgrade, '62-sytle V/T stack, Kickass bridge

I guarantee you that if you put your bass in a case at the end of a gig and do a poll, 99% of the audience won't even be able to tell you what color it was. Try it. And I'm guessing your woodworkers friends aren't posting pics of their tools no matter how "pretty" they are.
