Zeibek Submarine alternative

Hey Frank, I just ordered a Photon Fuzz over the weekend and waiting for the Opti Fet to come back in stock. Really looking forward to tweaking the dials on it. However, are you interested in making something simular to the submarine? With your skills I'm sure that pedal would be really fat and rich along with some extras. I'd buy it for sure! What do you say??? :hyper:;)

Hi Vee, Thanks for the kind words. I will not be making a Submarine clone… From what I understand, the Submarine is basically a FET amplifier with subtle warmth in its tone.

The Opti-FET compressor was designed to reproduce that subtle warmth of a FET amplifier. But if you are looking for something with more warmth and character, I have designed an amplifier circuit for a new compressor that is able to be adjusted from transparent/clean to a really thick warm tone. We have been kicking around ideas of a preamp pedal built around this new warm amplifier circuit. So, to answer your question… yes, I am interested in building a nice preamp. But, the similarities to the Submarine will only be that they both will have a warm tonal character. :)

i believe that's a'ight.

MAN. the Gemini Drive is pretty freaking sick. the tone number is really subtle, but with all the switch options available it just works. it DOES feel more like a preamp with a great dirt section like a good VT Bass instead of a straight ahead OD pedal like the B3k. DIGGING it.

thanks CappySuh!

That is something good to know. Have you had much hands on experience with the Gemini Drive?

yeah man hope you enjoy it. i liked it a lot just wasnt what i was looking for and had to may options and not enough usage for my needs to hold onto it.... the LowDrive will probably be what i hold onto until i get the cash for the b3k or atleast untill i GAS up on something else....

I was lucky enough to win that ebay auction at a great price.
My submarine came in today, and it does everything I'd dreamed of. :')
My sound was pretty thin before. It sounded good, but was just missing that extra little "oomph," and I'd been looking for a way to fatten it up. The submarine does that beautifully.
Going to spend more time with it tomorrow, and gonna open it up and try to find out what model it is. :hyper:

Probably going to be an 08 MKII

Since my mkII Submarine does not play well with the Zoom pedals i have tweaked the Zoom to get an approximation.
Recalling that the Submarine circuit mimics the tweaked Fender Bassman circuit in the Mesa 400 (my personal favorite tone with a 2x15). It is a combo of limiter, slightly warmed Bassman model(35 on the drive), 45/55 mix on wet dry and a tweak of the EQ, it has become my starting point for most sounds. You can hear the result below bass was recorded direct from the Zoom B2.1u using a PV Verdine White (Sarzo) bass.

Sounds like the lab is busy. That's great! I would be interested in something like that. I knew you'd have the extras to go with it. LOL
BTW- I got the Photon Fuzz and love fuzzing all over the rhythm. Well actually right under it. Great job on the pedal.
