Zeibek Submarine alternative

Wow, you guys are awesome. I just discovered the Cajita Stompboxes site last night, and was gonna ask if anyone had any experiences. It seems like you're all a few weeks ahead of me.

My Cajita Stompbox Submarine is complete and ships tomorrow. It will probably take two weeks to arrive. Full review when it arrives.

I'll be waiting anxiously for your review! I'm hoping for great things. :hyper:

Does anyone have any comparison clips of the submarino on and off?

I've heard clips of the pedal on, and loved how the recordings sounded. But I've noticed a lot of people say that the effect of the pedal is almost inaudible and hardly noticable, until they turn it off.

This made me realise that I dont have much of a reference point with the little guy and am curious to see just how much of a difference the submarine makes. Basically... I wanna hear the before/after magic. :hyper:

Got Cajita Stompboxes' version of the Submarine yesterday.

  • 7-day-shipping from Argentina to Spain. Perfect condition, sturdy construction, light weight, "Star Trek" looks.
  • Only tried it via earphones at home. I'd define it as a clean boost that does fatten your bass signal, with the tone control to round up the highs response, Silent switching and no noticeable noise added.

A remarkable pedal for your arsenal.
Fellow TBers: do bear Cajita Stompboxes in mind when considering having an effect pedal built! (Just my personal opinion)
:p

Wow! That was fast shipping. Mine should be here anytime and I'll get a chance to A/B with my Submarine.

Thanks for the update!

Just got my Cajita stompbox clone of the Submarine and was able to A/B it with the real Submarine.

Package arrived today, well packed and surprisingly quick shipment from Argentina. Great communication throughout the ordering process.

The Cajita is an interesting build. The enclosure is unique and seem like it would hold up, but the sides make a wobbling sound when you shake it. Probably not an issue but doesn't seem as solid as a hammond enclosure. The label is just a sticker and won't hold up for very long. Internally the pots are soldered directly to the circuit board. Probably not an issue, but you usually don't see that in custom builds. Lots of empty space inside, so an MXR sized enclosure would be a better choice for a pedalboard, IMHO.

How does it sound? The pedal has no noticeable noise even when cranked. That's a plus as the original Submarine has a hiss that's noticeable on a tweetered cab. But does it have the warmth of the ElectroniX Submarine? In a word, "No". It has the boost and the tone control is similar, but it doesn't have the tubey warmth of the original.

Sorry, but I can't recommend it as a replacement for a Submarine. It's close and it's similar, but it's not the same. And with that review I won't be able to sell the Cajita clone.
