Zoom MS-60B announced... at last

Hey guys, I've got a question for the signal path.

can I send a clean signal through one of the outputs and a dirty one through the other?

I'm no expert on this stuff, but I'll give it a go. I'm sure someone much more capable will chime in soon. As far as I know, the outputs on the MS-60B are not for a dry and wet output, but rather mono or stereo.

You'll need to use a blend pedal if you want to do that I'm afraid - something like the venerable Boss LS-2.

It does seem like an oversight though - having a master clean blend in the zoom would make it infinitely more useful to the gigging bassist. Or like you say, the ability to configure the outputs to clean and dirty. So many multi-fx manufactures seem to think that bass players want stereo effects. We don't, we won't clean and dirty.

Perhaps an email to zoom might be in order - I'm sure something like that could be implemented in a firmware update.
 
I've gotta say, as much as I love my GT-10B, I could definitely see myself switching to a board consisting entirely of MS-60B's.

A few people have brought this up in relation to buying 3 MS-60B's instead of a B3.

While this would give you a ton of capability in a small footprint, it would also triple the number of AD/DA conversions, increasing latency, noise, jitter, etc.

Would it be audible? I don't know, but I'd want to check it out before I laid out 3 bones...
 
I bought a Saturnworks blender TB pedal trying to use it with the Ms-60b in the loop only. I was having a very loud pop when I turned it on and I've been talking to Brian at Saturnworks trying to figure out the problem. I sent him the pedal and he found out the pedal pops when the pedals in the loop are off because of his circuit he uses. He told me to only use it with the pedals on because that how it was designed. The only pedal I use in the loop is the ms-60b and you cant turn those off. So Im guessing the buffer output must work like a pedal turned off.

Just letting you guys know if your looking for a looper for your ms-60b, don't use the SaturnWorks (I think it's only the blender). I told him to send it back and I'll use it for analog dirt pedals or something but not with my ms-60b. Too bad because they sound really good.
 
hey guys, I have read most of this thread, and enjoyed reading about the journey of learning this product for you all and the sharing of knowledge!!

I am tossing up between MS-60B and the B3, but i am probably leaning toward the 60B currently. I have a few questions:

1. Are people using patches that are queued up with A,B,C,D method finding it easier to have the 60B in a switchable fx loop on a Bassbone or VT bass Deluxe or similar or are they just running it in line with their other pedals?

2.If using the line selector in a patch, which is in an A,B,C,D sequence, how do you turn the line selector on or off with the foot switch, as this is also the button which advances you through your patches?

3. Is anyone using one of these with a VT Bass deluxe? I cant help but think this would work amazingly! A clean, grit, and dirt sound on each bank of 3, for 2 different output basses, and all other effects able to be queued in the fx loop with it switched off.

Inline. My last gig I had the 60b setup with a loop pedal as an on/off, and I found I simply didn't use it. Was much easier just cycling through the A/B/C presets.

You wouldn't, as these are separate modes. You would have to exit the A/B/C/D mode in order to access individual pedals in a patch. The A/B/C/D selector mode isn't the default method of advancing you through patch presets, it's just an auxiliary functionality that helps with live playing. By default, you advance through the patch presets with one of the dials; once you select a preset and go the patch, the stomp switch turns individual "pedals" on and off. So if you wanted to get that kind of use out of a line selector, you would need to be using only one patch at a time.

In single patch mode it's easy, just set the LS before the other three FX in the patch, then you can turn them all on/all off by using just the LS.
 
I actually use the stereo outs on my 60B and Line 6 M5's. The spacial effects are pretty cool if I place each of my GK NEO 210's several feet apart. For those who aren't going to be using the stereo outs, but would like to use them as separate dry and wet outputs, couldn't you just open the unit up, disconnect the wires going to the right channel out, and then bridge it with the input with a couple of jumper wires? Then you'd have a built in bypass out without using another pedal to do it.

It is not a terrible idea, but not everyone will want to modify their pedal in this way. Actually you could put a switch in the unit so that you could connect the right output jack to its normal source for stereo effects when you want them and to the input jack when you want wet/dry outputs.

Even so this is something that Zoom should do in software if there is demand for it. They already have something called a splitter which doesn't really split anything, it seems more like a high/low band filter with adjustable levels on both bands and an adjustable crossover frequency. They also have a line selector which either selects or bypasses the effects that follow it. They need a left/right splitter that would send the signal it receives directly to the right output and through the following effects to the left output. Then you could have your normal wet output along with a dry or partially dry (moist?, damp? :D ) output depending on where in the effects chain you put the splitter. It probably would not take much code, perhaps it could even be a fifth effect, one that would have no impact on processor power and so could be used with up to four of the current effects.

Time for an email writing campaign??

Not that I've seen the inside on the device, but going by other Zoom units I have owned I have a feeling this would be more difficult than that. It's more than likely all the components (including the output jack sockets) are surface mounted on a PCB, making modifications like that quite difficult.

You could possibly remove the surface mounted socket and replace with another one and bridge that instead? It would be a passive split though, and my experience with them hasn't been great - one signal tends to overwhelm the other.

Honestly, unless it can be remedied in firmware, I think an external active blender is the best way.

The B3 allows one to blend in their dry bass tone in with the effect chain at patch level, meaning that it is possible to apply a custom wet/dry blend and then store it along with the patch. This blend is not split across the LEFT and RIGHT 1/4" outs, but it does provide the ability to mix DI in with the DSP.

That's definitely a step forward (mix control at the patch level instead of inside each effect, as on the MS-60B), but the OP was looking for completely separate clean and dirty on the L and R output jacks.

For that, he's going to need some sort of blender (hopefully not the Boss, which has wicked tone suck).
