Does anyone know what octaver this could be?

Yes, it is Rocco, and the board looks similar to the one he had when I saw him (IIRC, he had another Darkglass pedal instead of the Vintage Microtubes, the one with the big X).

Either way, I was also under the impression during the show that he was using both octavers simultaneously. But also, the BOD in the picture is also set with the dry all the way off. So I assume it's not the BOD in the video?

Fender Rumble v3 40 - First Impressions

The R40 would likely just barely do the job, with little to no headroom to spare. The same can be said about the other two amps you listed. I have a Rumble 40 and it's a great practice amp or used with acoustic only strings and percussion. (Barely enough with regular drums and modest drummer.) If you're looking to run into the FOH, using the DI, and only using it for a monitor, it will do fine.

If you're running with no PA/FOH, then the Rumble 100 V3 would likely stand up a little better. It's 2 inches taller and deeper, and 4 lbs heavier than the R40. It's footprint is still smaller than the BG250-15, but it's 12 lbs lighter. R100 is 10 inches shorter, 1-1/2 inches shollower [front to rear] and 3-1/4 inches narrower, so it's noticeably smaller and lighter than the BG.

In GC its usually Sweet Child of Mine (seems Stairway has been retired) or one power chord incessantly through 12 different amps with
16 different pedals each. And way too much bass slapping.

I would guess that those with mentors look to the roots whereas the cool kids just want to be cool for one show (or girl).

Is there a scientific reason to support tube power amps really "feeling" different?

Tube amplifiers tend to have asymmetric saturation producing even ordered harmonic distortion, which sounds smoother than the edgey odd ordered harmonic distortion you get with solid state.
They can, but they also may not, it depends entirely on the circuits being used. Most tube power amps used in bass amps tend to clip pretty symmetrically actually.

However, I really hope Will is OK. There's a twitchiness which is very evident from the beginning of this interview that I've never seen with him before. I've seen several interviews with Lee over the years (and met him at NAMM several years ago,) so this was unsettling. I even reviewed interviews and performances with him from within the past year, and don't see any such behavior.

Steinberger Synapse for traveling

Good choice for a travel bass!

I’ve had an original Steinberger L-2 since 1982, and it has *always* been the easiest instrument to fly with. No dicking around with ATA flight cases, or gate checks, or air freight, or shipping it ahead to your destination via FedEx, etc etc (all things that I’ve had to do when flying with other basses I own). Just bring the Steinberger into the cabin as your carry-on luggage, pop it into the overhead compartment, and Bob’s Yer Uncle.

Bergantino's Vertical 410!!!!!

Almost a year later, this is still my favorite gig cabinet ever.

Caveat: I never did a direct A/B with my beloved NV610 -- this would be too logistically difficult to do at a gig, or even in gig conditions (I'm a condo dweller). But the NV410T gives me NV610 magic in a MUCH more gig-friendly package: it's just as tall, and the reduced weight is invaluable. Just as importantly, the narrow footprint allows me to bring it to every gig, even when it's more cab than I need (I know how to operate a volume knob)!

So far the 410 has easily provided all the volume I need even in loud conditions. The acid test will be this Saturday, as I have an outdoor gig with my "stoopid loud rock band" where I'd normally bring the NV610. The NV410 should be sufficient, but the bottom line is that after 20 years I'm finally done competing with those idiots (drummer and guitarist): if they don't care about bass in the mix then I won't either. They went from being my busiest band to my least busy band in part because of their volume. Post-pandemic, bars seem to have less tolerance for that nonsense.

Complaining aside: the NV410T is perfect for me. I'm sure I'd also love the NV312T, but I preferred NV610 to NV412 so I'm glad I jumped on the 410. :)

Catalinbread DLS / DLS Deluxe

Hey there low Enders. I bought a DLS regular pedal and absolutely love it on a certain setting: Tr 9 o’clock, Mid 1 o’clock , Bass 9 o’clock and pre 1 o’clock. It seems to do some magic that I can only really describe as “more” but with a bit of grit.

I loved it so much that I got the Deluxe version thinking that it’d be even better. I figured I’d start with the same settings / tone as the regular DLS. I just can’t see to get parity in that punchy tone. I reached out to the manufacturer and they said its more or less the same circuit.

Just wondered if anyone had experience / thoughts

Nordstrand Poly Vox

This one has Poly Vox pups into two Lusithand NFP Single preamps, each with their own output.

I've had this bass for 2 months now. I've played my other basses very little since. Each time I do play a different bass, I think: oh yeah, I like this bass too. But when I switch back, I start to think I can sell all the others.

Last Thursday, for the first time since I've had it, I didn't bring it to rehearsal (as an intentional experiment.) That won't happen again. It just sits perfectly in the mix. And with the dual filter preamps the range of tones available is incredible.

Critical error sanding/truss rod

Perfect execution. That's a goal. But rarely reality.
Well perfection as a goal for the first build is not a wise target.
I don't I really mean that... except it's an actual real problem in my life. Not starting projects that I know will be functional but not perfect. Or finishing projects and then living with a lingering fear that somewhere down the line it will fail and then I won't know how to fix it.

My first ever build was a neck through guitar that was designed around a double cut lp. As a confident engineering student I designed and made a double acting truss rod myself. I was surprised how well the instrument turned out. Not perfect, but nice for a first try.

Well, after 2 months or so the welds in the truss rod gave in and I had to blow up the neck. I was certain that a heated knife was a great way to remove the fingerboard. Back then the internet wasn't filled with the wealth of information we have today.

Anyways the board removal went less than ideal and I ended up removing a lot of wood from the neck shaft. I got it back together with a thick new 9 mm fingerboard, some maple strips to widen the neck shaft, an off the shelf truss rod and some carbon strengtheners. The guitar is somewhat playable, but the neck is too narrow and definitely not as pretty as the original was.

That was 20 something years ago. And I have yet to reach perfect execution in anything I do. Maybe one day...

Working blend pot with series/parallel switch?

Hi all,

I've been working on this for a little bit, and I think I may have a solution, using a 5PDT switch. Please see my attached wiring layout made in DIYLC, and the corresponding wiring analysis output. FWIW, the wiring output is the exact same as the output for the previous version of this I had made but it had separate blend knobs, one for the parallel side and one for the series side, as wired as indicated in post here: Working blend pot with series/parallel switch? | Page 2 | TalkBass.com I have run the ungrounded parallel blend as configured on my jazz bass.

I'm planning on testing this in the future, but if anyone gives it a go I'm happy to hear your results.

Feel free to ignore the series/parallel switches for the humbuckers. I'm just planning ahead for my next build. :D
