I will probably revisit it but for now it's just a piece of foam over the pedalboard. Not elegant but it's doing the job.

If you're only using two pots I would think a normal CTS 500k pair and your favorite tone cap would do just fine. If it were me, I'd go with a 0.1uF cap because I love how they play with bisonic pickups. Since the signal coming from these pickups is so clear and broad, a big dark cap like that can give you some wonderful deep tones while still maintaining a pretty remarkable degree of punch and definition. Very unique capability of these pickups that I think many overlook. That said, I do mostly play with them on brighter settings, it's just nice to go deep every now and then!

I forgot to mention, I chose the 1meg pots for the hagstrom since they are separate volumes intended for blending the signals between the switching options, but before the normal master volume and master tone knobs. The extra knob is a 4way rotary switch that lets me pick between 4 very different tone cap values. In any case, the master vol and tone are both 500k. The 1megs are nice out front because they don't load the signal much at all before feeding to the masters

You probably should know exactly what you have before taking things apart. You will need to match the footprint and height off of the PCB. This is often harder than it appears, especially with jacks since there are so many styles that look the same but have different front to back offsets.

I'd think it would affect the value more than a refin and that's generally a 50% hit on value.

THIS. If it works, it works. I've only worn out one Boblock (zipper blew out where the tuning keys drag across it). They are great bags! Actually held together much better than my old Mooradian overall.

I thought that they were just okay. For the Lakland hollowbody they just weren't as full as I felt like I wanted them to be. I'm not sure exactly why. What I ended up with, ultimately, was a serek B90 in the bridge position and a 916 Pickups Darkstar in the neck position.

Hi Allie,

James started recording electric bass with Motown on or around May 22, 1962.

Motown was very much a "workshop" meaning record everything that the producers and writers could come up with and then choose to release what was thought as the best tracks as singles.

All of the Complete Motown Singles Sets Year by Year are available on streaming.

Just by listening about 30 seconds thru each track, the producers/quality control were favoring the "upright sound" for the single releases on recordings made through mid 1964.

Somewhere in 1964 you started to get (record) big electric bass hits "My Girl", "How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You", "Dancing In The Street", etc then the shift to the P-Bass (on released singles) became more prominent.

All that written...there are A LOT of James on upright Motown songs.

That kit looks nice. I used to steer customers toward Makita when I sold tools. Their QC and design were far superior to DeWalt back then. The parts and service were always better back then, too, but that may have changed.

A skill that is very useful in any fabrication is the use of a (adjustable)combination square to set cutter depth on routers, table saws, doing layout, etc. They are not expensive and an easy-to-read, quality 6” (or metric equivalent )one will last a lifetime. They are more associated with machining, but mine was a constant companion in the cabinet shop I worked in, too.

Remember that the resistance you feel when plunging is also from the cutter entering the wood, and the smaller the cutter, the faster you need to spin to maintain a given feed. A 1/4” bit will resist plunging at the lower speeds of the routers you linked to. You may need to crank the speed up a little if you’re using bits smaller than a 1/2”.

I keep a piece of laminated paper in the rack that has all the patches on it, so I can hand the snake off and they know what cables 1, 2 and 3 are for instance.

Yes, it is Rocco, and the board looks similar to the one he had when I saw him (IIRC, he had another Darkglass pedal instead of the Vintage Microtubes, the one with the big X).

Either way, I was also under the impression during the show that he was using both octavers simultaneously. But also, the BOD in the picture is also set with the dry all the way off. So I assume it's not the BOD in the video?

I just saw him recently playing with Kate Olson on Saxophone who just released a new album that's worth checking out. His playing is fantastic on that, too.

I don't have his number and I only see him every once in a while but I'll mention this to him next time I see him.

The R40 would likely just barely do the job, with little to no headroom to spare. The same can be said about the other two amps you listed. I have a Rumble 40 and it's a great practice amp or used with acoustic only strings and percussion. (Barely enough with regular drums and modest drummer.) If you're looking to run into the FOH, using the DI, and only using it for a monitor, it will do fine.

If you're running with no PA/FOH, then the Rumble 100 V3 would likely stand up a little better. It's 2 inches taller and deeper, and 4 lbs heavier than the R40. It's footprint is still smaller than the BG250-15, but it's 12 lbs lighter. R100 is 10 inches shorter, 1-1/2 inches shollower [front to rear] and 3-1/4 inches narrower, so it's noticeably smaller and lighter than the BG.

In GC its usually Sweet Child of Mine (seems Stairway has been retired) or one power chord incessantly through 12 different amps with
16 different pedals each. And way too much bass slapping.

I would guess that those with mentors look to the roots whereas the cool kids just want to be cool for one show (or girl).

They can, but they also may not, it depends entirely on the circuits being used. Most tube power amps used in bass amps tend to clip pretty symmetrically actually.
