But, something about this bass is making it hard to get rid of... sounds great, plays great, low action. previous owner must have applied the "road worn" look to the body, also has new J bass pup from previous owner. The neck pickup if great for the reggae/dub tunes I jam too, and the middle position gives great rock tones.
I put in a new switch, pots and output jack. The 32" scale is really comfortable as well. Anyone have any experience with these? I keep listing it to sell and them change my mind once I play it again... the struggle...

Anyone know what these might be worth? It seems like some of the squier TB models go from anywhere between $300-$500. Not sure what to think.

Rotosound 66, I used to use the RS66LD but now RS66LC. Maybe I'll also use Dean Markleys before they all run out of stock. Sometimes I buy a bass with the expectation of what strings to use (often flatwounds), though.

The driver for my move to very lightweight cabs was the damage I did to my back after years of carrying 2 x 90lb Mesa Boogie cabs. Without that problem I'd never have found Bergs. Then, when I needed to go even lighter Barefaced had just started.

Jim Bergantino really does engineer world class cabs, as does Alex at Barefaced. I consider myself very lucky to be playing at a time when those guys are active in the bass gear market.

Yeah, I cancelled my dispute only once I had the product in hand, but now I have an extra because I got a replacement from a third party (in London! To Honolulu!) while I was waiting. I’d love to just go through dealers but if they’re having stock issues as well…

So the problem with v1 tubes was in the tube socket. Metal bits that are soldered to PCB were bended to match the holes in the socket. The first and the last ones weren’t bended exactly at 90 degrees which put stress on pins 1 and 9 of the tubes, which in turn passed on to the glass. Then with heating and cooling the glass eventually broke near these two pins. I had the socket replaced, hopefully it will be fine now.

- Carrying strap was doubled to offer a single over-the-shoulder option for righty or lefty transport, or standard backpack style.
- Back straps were also shortened and positioned lowered for better balance whilst retaining overhead clearance.
- Removable hardware bag with separate shoulder strap.
- Reinforced padding throughout, especially in the base area.

The final-Final version is expected to have the carrying handle shifted up about 4” and a grab-handle installed just above the shoulder straps. And all stitching, hardware, strap materials… it’s all top-shelf stuff. Very please!

I bought this from Scratch.it. You receive a pdf to print to compare the dimensions, including holes position with the original plate. If you are carefull while doing it (printing at the proper scale, etc), and they explain you how to do, this is pretty easy. The result is good. The printing is not pixelized, but I assume it will also depend on the resolution of the picture you want them to print.

I forgot the name of the contact, but he was super friendly and responded quickly. Yes I recommend!

Differences in the instruments aside, they will both sound like YOU playing them. How different can they be ? If you want them to sound noticeably different, you may have to approach them differently.

Give me just about any bass and any amp and about 5 minutes, and it'll sound like me.

I had the circa 2009 classic Fiesta red P but stupidly sold it. years ago

Now I have this one, a '23 bought used. The electronics were wonky so I had them replaced along with a new pickguard. I like it except it is heavier than I'd like it to be, about 9.5 pounds. I bought it used online without checking the weight. I might go for ultralite tuners and am considering an upgrade to the pickup but there are too many choices so I'm standing pat for now. I tried the pickup and bridge covers but they added too much weight.

I put on LaBella tape wounds, short scale. I ended up cutting off the ball end silk on the E string to reduce the bulk at the bridge. They barely clear the nut but the medium scale strings seem too long. Nice, mellow sound.

I'd given up on building for a while, with all the toddler drama that was going on. Then, two friends died last month.
I figure it'd be my reminder to get off my ass and get to building.

I'm planning on making a laminated neck black with port orford cedar, and doing something like Sebastien Gavret's dragonfly bass:

Figured I'd chime in. In 2022, I bought a brand new Ray34 in poplar burl. When I initially got it, everything was fine, but eventually developed the same issues with the tuners. Only reason I'm posting this is because I've pretty much put that bass away for the past couple of years since I couldn't tune it. Well, for some strange reason, I was like, 'I'm going to see if I can replace the tuners' so went googling to find what would fit the existing screw holes and found this thread. I figured, what the heck, and emailed Sterling yesterday to see if they would possibly replace them since it was a known issue (or at least hoping, before I go through buying some). They responded today asking which tuners were affected and told them all 4 and sent them some pics. I know I'm way past warranty on this bass, but hoping they will do the right thing and replace them for me.

Here's some pics of the bass along side a sub 5HH I got super cheap (and absolutely love.. sounds amazing). I replaced the original clear pickguard with a 3 ply B/W/B.

So I can confirm that Sterling has offered to replace all 4 of my tuners free of charge. They shipped today. Got to say. I'm pretty impressed they would still offer to replace them 4 years after I bought the bass (3 years past the 1 year warranty). I might just have to jump online and find another Sterling to buy!

I’ve been doubling for about 25 years.
Mostly with an Azola Bug Bass and some type of BG. I also have a hybrid Upton. I purchased a Stanley Clarke preamp to use with my various rigs and it has been the best tool in my arsenal for doubling. Great tone control and easy to get a sound with any of my basses. I also owned a NS for a short time. It was a great instrument with a unique tone, but didn’t do the upright thing justice.
