Old USA Spectors vs current Euro Spectors

His tone and technique, and a long history with Spector (and almost Ibanez . . . ), I'm not surprised he preferred the one piece maple wings.

Thanks, DP.

I think the big tradeoff is weight. I have one of the maple/alder ones and it is light as a feather which is great for performance (in fact it is my “main” bass even with a Woodstock NS in my arsenal), but the all-maple is going to be more similar to his own instruments and the classic NS-2.

Is this CS 74 authentic

Wow that’s a rare bird! I own CS-74 #3 and I’m very sure that’s 100% authentic. You won’t find those particular pickups anywhere else, and all the details appear correct. Tell us more about where you saw this!
I am in possession of it. My wife inherited it from a family members estate.

Has anyone used WAVS custom IEMs? (iPhone ear scanning)

ive had them for about 4 years now since they were marketing in their early phase. Got the triple drivers hybrid mold for $350 at the time. I've played for church and now I more consistently do video editing. The conch seal mold is nice as it allows you to wear them for long periods of time without discomfort, as well as makes a nice seal. The ear tips do need replacing after a while, I only replaced them once, and the replacements were foam buds I found on amazon which work great. They are great and have no issues to this day. I can hear a separation of instruments, voices, etc when I play your average Spotify song or any professionally mixed track. Im sure there's better out there, but these are fantastic.

My opinion on Dingwall

With tax you’re talking right at $4000. With Jason’s price at fret nation, along with him not charging sales tax, you’re paying almost half off with today’s pricing. In 2024, the 4 string version was $2650.
$2500 is a good price for these MSRP.
Honestly about as good as it gets for a mass produced instrument, but, again, they saved money with China, they should pass that along to you.

Ray's are priced $500 too high, same with Frnders.

$3700 is just redonkulous.

And yeah, no sales tax is what finally made me jump.

But now I'm broke, GAS is cured, nothing else I'm jonesing for, well, kinda, but that can wait till next year.

Double Bass New Tempera Hybrid Oak

here's a short of my transcription of Bag's Groove - i'm not a pro but still might be valuable for how the strings sound. Recorded with an Apogee Mic+ straight into GarageBand with mild compression and low cut, no EQ or mastering filters.

Both you and the bass/strings sound good

NPD: Valeton GP-50

Going to try this tomorrow, just went thru presets today and edited a couple (just came in 6p EST), can’t wait to do a deep dive! Lotta metal and hard rock for guitar, will be trying out bass tomorrow. Seems like fun! Sounds good so far. If I’d had something like this 30 years ago…..
So, put my GP50 on the, board today and was quite pleased. Made my own patches too, woo hoo!

art tube mp...incredible!!!!

I have several versions in the studio but I use them strictly as mic preamps since my other DIs honestly sound better for bass and such.

Nope, I didn't see the need as they are different creatures the way I approach how my gear is used. I have shelved a ot of past solutions for bass since getting my @Sushi Box FX preamps and Finally.

v1 used for lo fi sounds since it's old and pretty beat up after using it in my sound company for over a decade. Perfect for crunchy vox, bass or snare drum.
v2 Studio used with a clip on condenser mic for acoustic instruments, guitar and horns. Has quiet phantom power and VU meter helps to set gain level.
v3 The saturation and OPL work well for finding a desired saturation/limiter setting. This version is interesting on bass but there are much better choices available.
TPS II dual rack mount version, handy for any dual mic set up either stereo, mid side or mixing a side axis mic.

FWIW mic preamps work for bass but have a microscopic effect on bass that enhances the best and worst of any bass and player's technique.
Thanks. I was just curious if anyone had done a comparison. I , too, run a few SushiBox preamps, and actually built a Particle Accelerator and Bassdude into a single enclosure (not a pedal) that also includes an always-on Broughton HPF. I really like these preamps, and you can get a bit of pleasant overdrive out of them, too! The switch on the front selects between PA and Bassdude. The HPF is always-on, but is only connected if you route your instrument through it before patching into the preamp input jack. Anyway, I just wanted to share my little project that has served me well since the Covid shutdown. While the venues were closed I used the downtime to put his together.

MTD Kingston K4 neck replacement?

I kinda assumed the op would know he’s probably going to be sanding some edges back in the neck pocket. Even a budget Ibanez gsr I rebuilt needed a bit of sanding and shim work to get it right.
Oh yes, I figured the neck would not be a direct plug and play situation, but always a good reminder! I was debating trying my hand at making a neck, but this is a better situation. Thanks DJ, I'll shoot you an email!

L-2000 OMG mod question

This is what I’ve come up with so far to replicate the omg series mode of the original wiring and also throwing in a k-mod with a toggled omg mode. I tried to combine the two diagrams into one. Can anyone confirm this will work?
I think i figured it out. This configuration will not work. Going back to what was in the Daveplaysbass packet, number 8 seems to be what i'm after. This doesn't have the OMG circuit on the single coil mode but I'm not sure that's a thing?

NBD - Nordstrand Acinonyx V (Cat V Bass)

If you check out my Instagram page I've done quit a few tone demos of the Cat 5 playing different styles of music. The feel is boutique and the low B is solid as a full scale. Even across the board, every tone rings out in the mix. Think between a PBASS and a Wal.

V1 is my favorite. Appreciate the clips!

Diary of a Bassist #44: The Midnight Girl

I get you now. There is a tradition of some players naming their instruments after wormen at the bar, most famously BB King naming his guitar Lucille.

I had a blonde '67 Precision Bass that was dubbed "The Unknown Blonde" by one of her previous owners. Love that smoky patina gaiined from years in smoky bars.

and I currently have the "Midnight Lady"

One of my favorite Doobie Brother's songs "Southside Midnight Lady" for another of those encounters.
