Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Finally completed the Electra Corsair 4001 copy project. Binding work done, bridge pickup switched out to a Ric 4003 pickup.

Was playing along (well trying to) some Brazilian Bossa Nova last night. I will consider myself excommunicated from the thread.
All musical tastes are welcome here. And bossa nova will do wonders for timing. Duolingo (I've been learning Spanish on there for seven years now for) nowadays offers a musical course. The main thing I'm learning is that I'm often before the beat. I need to work on that.

My reaction too. I'm far too stupid for all of those options. Lol
Exactly! More than three knobs and I lose interest.

Gig coming up this Friday in Richmond at Another Round. I'm pretty stoked but man, I wish there were some more bands out this way in the stonery/doomy style as opposed to the chug scream chug thing. We always end up the odd man out at shows.

Side note: after a LONG wait, this thing finally came yesterday. It has endless combinations of filth ranging from a little Geezer woody mud to full on brown note gut-wrenching obscenity.

I wonder how it compares to the Wren & Cuff version.

I have no idea. I also don't really know what most of the dip switches do, aside from the obvious sonic differences. I intend to spend a bit of time looking at the schematic and figure out *** I'm doing with it sometime pretty soon.

thanks, good to be back. haven't picked up a bass in about 2 years. Hoping to start jamming with the guys again, but it will need to be something very different to keep me interested.
I've been lurking in this thread since it started and I rarely post so for what it's worth, I as a random internet person second the other guy and felt it was worth posting that you're too good not to share your gift.

I've barely played in the past 2 years either due to work and after my band Hypnochron went on permanent hiatus didn't really feel like finding new people because I'm old and its a pain in the ass. What little playing I've done is I tried my own solo doom/sludge version of the Royal Blood thing with a POG/Pitch Fork which sounds great and is incredibly fun, just no time with work so far to finish the project. Have about 30 minutes of music finished but would need to do vocals and do the real tracking to put it out. You might want to try something off the wall like that or get a fun synth pedal to inspire you. The bass as guitar/bass at the same time sounds gigantic with down-tuning.

i've actually been playing a lot of synths, and have picked up more synth gear. got into the semi-modular world with a Grandmother as well as a Make Noise Strega and i'm in the process of building out an all Fairfield Circuity synth board (Meet Maude, Hors d'ouvre, Long Life, Roger That and Shallow Water). The guys and I are thinking of jamming again along with another guitar player. we're looking to incorporate more of a psych and experimental feel, and if i can get my way, i'd love to add some a touch of mowtown/funk/soul.

some of bands/albums that have caught my attention over the last little while:

the latest from Bushman's Revenge, I love all their stuff.

Another new favorite band, all their stuff is great. Saw them live back in Sep and was blown away. One of the heaviest bands i've seen. Felt like a more psych version of Boris.

Japanese Kraut Rock???

What's everyone currently GASing for?

I've been eyeing a Stingray 5. When the hell did they become a $3000 bass? EB just released their lineup for 2024, the purple sunset is calling me...

Ernie Ball Music Man: New at NAMM 2024!

the neo pickups are a bit of a turnoff. May need to look into aftermarket options.
maaaaan, i've never really been an EB or even an active bass guy but lately i've been really wanting to try a stingray or Ibanez ATK so bad.
also really debating finally grabbing a mantic vitriol after years of wanting one but never pulling the trigger.

I had a 2006 2 band SR4. It never really fit with the band soundwise so I sold it here on TB. Last year I managed to track it down and bought it back and i've really enjoyed playing it. Sounds like no other bass i have and the unfinished neck always felt amazing to me. This is what got me thinking about a 5 string. But since they don't offer the unfinished necks anymore I may look for an older used one.

Hey been a while, I just been broke for years and y’all make me Gas to much. Anyway, I have a stupid amount of GC cards and need a second amp. Other one is GK 700rb that I love and an early 70’s V4 that I still think is the best sounding bass amp I’ve ever owed including a few CL’s. I’ve had it worked on so many times I’ll only use it at home. I’m seeing a Traynor yba 200 that’s in my range, yet as I lurked, most dislike this amp. I’m in a punkish kinda hardcore band and early breakup is what I want. Just seeing if anyone has a positive view of this amp? Thanks

I love traynor but the YBA 200 and 300 are a bust. Try to find a YBA 3, 3A or 1A. I had a prestine YBA 3 modded from EL34 to 7027 power tubes that I regret selling. Awesome amp.
