Swapping out my Mk1 preamp for an OBP-3

I'm a little frustrated with the electronics in my Ocean. They're Bartolini Mk1s, just like the legions of Corts, Ibanezes, and Laklands out there. The pickups are great, but the preamp is kind of noisy and doesn't really add much to the tone, no matter how I tweak the EQ. What I'm thinking...

Possible problem with Little Mark II

+1 The sound cutting out intermittently sounds like a shorted instrument cable. Had this problem last week, and after a song's worth of 'wait - did my bass just cut out for a bit?' I jiggled the cable ends on purpose to see it it came back, found that it did, and swapped it out for a good cable.

    Why no Markbass-ish guitar heads?

After a night of hauling my guitar player's gear all over the place, I couldn't help but wonder why you don't see more lightweight guitar heads and cabs out there. I mean, I know a clean tone doesn't go nearly as far with a guitar as it does with bass, but I would think that with all the pedal...

Anyone tried out the new Laguna basses?

I ask the question more out of curiosity, than anything. I already own a blonde 5-string Ocean, one of the first batch of basses in their stable. Great bass - solid construction, extremely flexible, with a smooth, almost crystalline tone. Almost the complete opposite of my Warwick, come to...

    LMII discontinued??........yep

You forgot the improved EQ points...but then again, does anyone actually use their EQ on a Little Mark?

Wow. These $39 fuses sure make a difference.

I agree! No true Scotsman - I mean audiophile - could miss the difference!

    ibanez sr neck... any similar?

Interesting. I own a 5-string Ocean, and I thought it was essentally an A5 copy. Not so much, I guess. It has one of the thinnest necks I've ever seen on a bass, though, as well as a 16.5mm string spacing. It's definitely one of the more attractive basses to be had in its price range, too...

a question for warwick corvette standard ash owners

It's a bit of a conundrum, really. It's quite light, but it's still got that bigass Warwick neck. Is it more comfortable than the bubinga version? Yes. Does the neck dive slightly? Yes. Does it aggravate me or affect my playing? No. All things considered, I'd much rather have the swamp...

    ibanez sr neck... any similar?

The Laguna Ocean/Cort Artisan basses are really similar to the Soundgear basses - thin neck, tight string spacing, lightweight body. Overall, I'd peg their quality as beneath that of the SR Prestige, but superior to the other SR basses. They sound quite similar, as they use the same Bartolini...

Markbass LMII Marco Limited Edition First Impression

So I just got back home from work, and lo and behold, there was a shiny gold Little Mark waiting for me. Amazing amp. I'd used one before at GC and was impressed, but here at home plugged into my UL2-410, well, it's another thing entirely. I know that "transparent" is fast becoming as big a...

    Continuous vs Programmable watt rating...

It's my understanding that the acoustic output of the vast majority of cabs isn't limited by the thermal capabilities of the speakers so much as by the excursion of the drivers at low frequencies. Unfortunately for us, while speakers tend to come with some nice, easily quotable parameters to...

    First Mark Bass Experience

Hm...I just popped over to my local GC during my lunch break, and while their bass guy practically squealed with glee when I told him Markbass was coming out with a Little Mark with a tube pre, he wasn't able to find any reference to it in their system, nor was he able to put one on order...

Markbass LMII Marco Limited Edition First Impression

I've actually got one of these coming in the mail today. Can't wait to give it a spin.

How to tell if a bass teacher is @#$% or not?

Well, as it turns out, I did essentially audition a few teachers last week, and while all of them knew their way around a fretboard and could definitely teach me some things, one of them definitely stood head and shoulders above the rest. The thing is, I wasn't looking for someone to show me...

Getting a good tone with a LMII + Warwick bass?

Hm. Well, I've got a 5-string Corvette, myself, and I ordered a LMII and Epifani UL2-410 a couple days ago, so I guess I'll see what you mean soon enough. : \
