The Combo Club

I'm considering getting the SB112; I'm hoping 200 watts into a 4 Ohm 12 will do what it needs to: cover smallish drumless/acoustic gigs where the bass isn't in the PA and provide stage volume on drum/electric gigs where the whole band is in the PA. Anyone have any experience with this combo they can share?

And just to offer my bona fides, I'm a combo guy through-and-through: I play an Ibanez Promethean at home and pop it on top of a 115 for gigs.

But I'm hoping the Traynor can split the difference...

Never played through one but... heard a guy playing one while on vacation. 4 piece medium volume with drums. No volume issues. Had me looking at that combo for awhile. Sounds like it would work based on my limited experience.

Well, I've decided to go in an entirely new direction. As some of you know I have a Rumble 100 and have been looking to expand. Instead of getting a 2nd R100 and also a speaker upgrade, I'm looking to buy a Rumble Studio 40. It would be fun to have all of the Amp and effects plus I could play guitar through it.
For more volume I can always chain to the R100. As I don't/can't play out, at least not on a regular basis, I'm thinking it's perfect.
Also looking to buy a ZOOM R24 hoping I'll start recording a little. Anyway, sounds like good times to me. Thanks for indulging me.

Yep, sounds like good times to me, too, Lovey! It's great having all those different amps, cabs and effects right at your fingertips in the Studio 40. Even more convenient using a smartphone to control it. Just run an instrument cable from the left channel (mono) Effects Send of the Studio to the Effects Return of your Rumble 100 for small-to-intermediate gig level volume. OooOoo, and set the XLR Outs to stereo for some really cool recordings!

Please keep us informed of this project. :)

Pic, please? :)

And just to offer my bona fides before I stumble into this exclusive club with my muddy boots still on, I'm a combo guy through-and-through: I play an Ibanez Promethean at home and pop it on top of a 115 for gigs.

But I'm hoping the Traynor can split the difference (110 too small, 115 too big, 112 just right?) with grab-and-go convenience.

fermata, by the power vested in me via Bill's Used Furniture Shoppe and Sausage-Grinding, Ltd. of Greater Toledo, I hereby knight you with membership number 158. Go forth and serve this club with honor and distinction. If not, stop by when you can and don't forget to wipe your feet on the mat in the foyer. Congrats!

Thought I'd drop this off for all the Peavey TNT users in here. My TNT 150 started picking up a hum and it got pretty loud. It already had quite a bit of noise before as well. A quick search online found a video that shows one of the board mounting screws is where they grounded the pre amp board and the contact becomes dirty. Simply loosening and tightening the screw cleans it up enough and fixes the issue. Mine is dead quiet now. When I first turned it back on I did a double take to make sure I hooked the speaker back up lol. I'm pretty sure it's the same in all TNT models. I'll post a pic and the video. *Remember to unplug and keep your hands off of components! If your uncomfortable or unsure don't attempt*

I too have an Elf.

To connect mine to two of my Rumble extension cabs, I connect one 1/4” to Speakon cable to the Elf and then to the first R210 or R112 8 ohm extension cab, Then I use a second 1/4” to Speakon cable from the parallel jack on the first extension cab to connect the second R210 or R112 8 ohm extension cab.

This will give you a 4 ohm load so that you can have the full 200 watt output from your Elf.

I have played around with connecting mine to two R210s, two R112s, and also one R210 and one R112. So far I find all of the different combinations to have a good and workable tone.

I no longer have any other extension cabinets to try with my Elf.

As long as you have a 8 ohm extension cab that has two parallel jacks on the back of it to place as your first extension cab, and a second 8 ohm extension cab so that you can achieve a 4 ohm total load, it should work the same regardless of brand or cab speaker. Of course, this assumes that both extension cabs have the appropriate power handling capability.

OK thanks! I guess the labeling of the jacks on the back of the ELF cabinets through me because they are both labeled as "Parallel Inputs". Most of the other cabinets I have owned like GK have a dedicated Chain Out or Extension Cab connection. But this tells me that one of those Parallel Inputs will make a connection to the other cabinet as well.

I'm new to TB but am slowly finding my people. I've never had anything but combos. Numbah please?

Numbah coming up later this evening, Basspopper! My guess is you’re not hurting one bit having only combos either. Don’t get me wrong, I love separates too, but I respectively disagree that combos are too limiting.

Welcome aboard, bass brotha!
