    Fender Bassman 100T Chapter 3

Thanks again for the helpful advice on impedance matching. So I played with the 100T for its first gig last night. Absolutely bloody marvelous. Now I know what all the fuss is about.

    Fender Bassman 100T Chapter 3

Hi everyone, I always wanted to experience a tube amp to understand what all the fuss is about, and I finally went ahead and bought a 100T. It arrived a few days ago and I love it. Great tones. I play it through one or two of my GK 212 NEO cabs. First gig with it is tonight. Can't wait! This...

Measure battery voltage without removing cover!

That is indeed my bass. I only get a voltage when I have a cable plugged in and the switch turned on. I only get a 9v reading.

Measure battery voltage without removing cover!

Aha! This answers another question I had (I think). The wiring diagram shows the batteries wired in series with a red wire taking power to the circuit board. This wire was soldered to the wire from the board at a handy connection with a bit of shrink wrap covering the join. I tapped in to the...

It's a Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass.

Measure battery voltage without removing cover!

Hmmm... I tried that and could not measure a voltage as you describe.

Measure battery voltage without removing cover!

Hi, Before every gig, I have been changing my on-board batteries for fear they will go flat at the wrong moment. I was getting bored of this hassle and expense, and so I made a modification to my guitar which I wanted to share to others in the same situation. I soldered one end of a piece of...

    Wiring

I just bought "Rolls PM52 Passive Headphone Tap Monitor Level Converter" from www.parts-express.com. Now I can plug my speaker output into a mixer and I don't have to worry about applying too much voltage to my mixer if I inadvertently turn the input knob up to max.

    Wiring

Aha, someone who actually understands. Thank you for an answer based on facts about reality rather than intuition.

    Wiring

I did it, it works fine. The input impedance of the mixer is high. The voltage of the speaker outputs is not significantly higher than line voltages. The mixer draws so little current the head barely knows it has the mixer connected to its outputs.

can I plug the speaker outputs of my amp head into a mixer without risking damage?

    Wiring set up....

Yes, there is an effects send jack and a tuning jack. They are on the front of the amp. What I want is to avoid having a wire running out the front of the rack round to the back which I have to mess with. Thanks for all your replies, I think I now know what to do. I think I'm going to make a...

    Wiring set up....

My question is about monitoring my GK 1001RB through my Galaxy Audio AS 900 wireless monitor box. I have made it work by going out of the tuner output of the 1001RB into the AS 900. This means routing a wire from the front of my rack round to the back. I want to avoid this wire if possible...

How about tuning to your lowest required setting and putting a capo on for higher tunings?

    Which amp for $1000?

yes, the band has an enormous PA and I will DI out to it for gigs. We rehearsed this afternoon and I used one of the 212 Neos. I was pushing it pretty dang hard! It sounded great though and the guys were pleased with the sound.

    Which amp for $1000?

Well, the GK 1001 RB arrived with one of the 2x12 neo cabs. The other is on order. It is wonderful. Thank you for all your help folks, I am super happy with my set-up and glad I spent the extra cash.

Thanks everybody. I've ordered the 1001rb & the 2x212 neo cabs. Excited! I'll let you know what they're like :)

    Which amp for $1000?

Dudes, You have been a fantastic help. I have decided to mortgage the cat after all, go new, and go big-ish. I am upping the budget. I am thinking of 2 x 212 cabs for ease of portability (and giving me more options e.g. for smaller rig in smaller venues), instead of a 4x12. What do you think of...

    Which amp for $1000?

Great info, thanks. I'm in New Mexico as it happens. This forum has reshaped my ideas. I think I'm going to mortgage the cat and splooge out on a 4x12 with a suitable head. The best reviews I've read have been for a GK Neo 412 which should also be light enough to manhandle, powered by one of...

    Which amp for $1000?

Ok, cool. I'll keep it on the list. The only remaining question mark is whether the PF800 will sound as fat as a tube-preamp model. I'm hoping to try them back-to-back but struggling to find a store that has PF800s and LH1000s and MB800s available to try back-to-back.

    Which amp for $1000?

What about the HK Neo 412 under an HK MB Fusion 800? Don't you miss the ability to overdrive right on the amp? The MB has 2 channels and a footswitch, so I'd have to get me a pedal overdrive or something to get that sound with the LH1000.

Alright! that rule-of-thumb is fantastic info. Thanks for that info, there are some great products out there. I have some AlienEars, they're just the job, but somehow there's nothing like playing without those things in. Like condoms for the ears....

    Which amp for $1000?

Hmmmmm... I can't find a bad review on the GK 412 Neo, and it's supposed to be reasonably light for it's power, just could do with some side handles. Perhaps I could find a way.

    Which amp for $1000?

You're spot-on. The lead guitar amp is a Marshall JCM 900 Mk III High Gain Master Volume Head running 100W through a Marshall 1960A 300W cab. The other guitar player has 3 amp/cab combos but yesterday he was running a Marshall JVM 410 HJS 100W head through a 1960AV 280W cab. Maybe I don't need...

    Which amp for $1000?

Possibly. My Rolands are combos, but they're not powerful enough and they're chuffing heavy as it is. They don't need an AB box because they're designed to be used as a pair, and each has a stereo in/out socket (built-in AB box I guess).

    Which amp for $1000?

Thanks. Lots of advice saying "buy used". I accept that I could get a bargain, but I'm having cognitive dissonance trying to feel that buying used is a good idea. I've been promising myself shiny new toys if I got in the band; It's easy to order, I live in the middle of nowhere and I'll get free...

    Which amp for $1000?

Looking through some reviews of the Portaflex, I found this: "Comments about Ampeg Portaflex PF800 800W Class D Bass Amp Head: The "Ampeg sound" is popular with many bass players, so I thought I'd give this amp a try since it also promised high power for relatively low money in a lightweight...

    Which amp for $1000?

Aha, a new term to add to my vocab - "mid-scooped". I learn! Thanks. I am reading up on that now. Maybe it would be a good thing to have a mid-scooped cab, so the bass comes loud and clear without the mids stepping into the guitar territory and encouraging those pesky guitarists to turn up their...

    Which amp for $1000?

Thank you, some excellent advice. I'm sure you're right about the guitarists' amps. They both had Marshal systems. I've texted the lead guitarist to find out exactly what they have, I think it will be an important factor in my decision making process. This is one of those circumstances where...

    Which amp for $1000?

I have been leaning towards this exact set-up. However, some threads I have read claim that this GK rig is missing mid-range, though has plenty of top and bottom. Is there any truth in that do you think?

    Which amp for $1000?

Thanks for the constructive remark. It's been 20 years since the faculty of mechanical engineering at Leeds uni gave me their basic grounding in electric string and wiggly amps, so the memories are rather dim, but as I understand it, you can pair a 4-ohm head with an 8-ohm cab but you won't be...
