Does a di box have any advantages over a xlr to 1/4 cable? It seems pointless to have a di box if I can use a cable straight into the mixer/pa system from my bass.

Are you referring to the custom shop ones? I use the patch cable ones and they work flawlessly

I wouldn't go for a cable just for the warranty. Livewires are good standard cables and they also have the "super warrantys"
