i just put some vintage pickups in my american jazz bass with flats and when i do the foam trick and go direct with my tone rolled all the way down, thats how i get that tone. also, my head has a ridiculously low frequency eq so kicking up the lows and the higher mids helps it a lot

you do what you need to do. using your fingers is more flexible with the tapping and slapping being easy to switch back and forth from. picking is more punchy and sometimes easier to keep time with. you do whatever you need to do to play as good as you do.

don't do it. Ampeg is not to be traded for anything. once you're in, you're in. there's no turning back. everything else is going to sound bad to you.
