    MarkBass Amp/Cabinet

Hello TB, I've narrowed my search down to MarkBass for a new Amp/Cabinet and I had a few questions for you current MB users. I'm looking at the Little Mark Tube 800 for the amp, but is there a difference from the tube 800 versus without the tubes? Obviously one has tubes and one doesn't...

    Bought me an SX (Essex)

I've done a lot of reading and listened to several sound clips of people that modded theirs, but I don't think I will. Probably just the bridge, if anything. Going through my Avalon, I love the tone that I get and there is no reason to dump any money into it. If this tone isn't what I am...

    Bought me an SX (Essex)

Hey guys, I know they are millions of threads here on TB about SX basses, but I bought one a couple of weeks back and have been amazingly surprised by it. I haven't played a 4-string in about 10 years, but this thing is definately a sweet little bass for under $200.00 bucks. I will try to...

    Getting that growl

There is a thread on TB where Geddy's tech breaks down his setup. He uses an Avalon as well as a few other things in there. Search for the thread because it has a lot of good info in it about Geddy. On bassplayer.tv there is a video as well. Tim

Good mic for Acoustic Guitar and vocals?

Mics preferences are subjective and you have to figure out what mic works best for you. I personally would only use the 57's for instruments and the 58's for vocals, but that is just me. They say the only difference between the 57 and 58 (not the Beta's) is the screen - rounded versus squared...

Good mic for Acoustic Guitar and vocals?

Shure Beta 58A for vocals and a Shure Beta 57 or SM57 for the acoustic. Hope this helps. Tim Beta 58A http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Shure-Beta-58A-Mic?sku=270120 Beta 57A http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Shure-Beta-57A-Microphone?sku=270121 SM57...

    Right handed-Left handed??

I am right handed, shoot left handed and am left eye dominant. I am definately right handed. I play lefty because it feels natural to me. I'm not sure why, but that is the way I started playing 12 years ago and I just stuck with it. It was easier from a dexterity standpoint to teach my left...

    Jeff Berlin Discussing Music Ed

Jeff, I am thinking about taking your one week intensive class in March 2010 and have been playing bass for about 11 years. I know it's hard to say without actually knowing much about where I stand in terms of bass playing, but is there anything I can do between now and then in order to...

Why Jeff Berlin should be president of all music education

You could probably leave that up to interpretation. How many came to see a show, versus learning something from one of the greats? School is in session when you are in the same room with Wooten.

Why Jeff Berlin should be president of all music education

I guess I should have placed a rather large caveat to the fact that I think Jeff is an amazing player and teacher. My question was not meant to knock him, rather I found it interesting because that came directly from his website and I am sure only he approves what goes on there. Michael Vick...

Why Jeff Berlin should be president of all music education

This little piece from his bio on his site threw me off a little. "Surprisingly, he is a pioneer of slap bass when he brought this new percussive-style bass playing in 1979 to the second Bill Bruford album, “One of a Kind”, on the tune called 5G." I always thought Larry Graham was the...

    DAW recording PC question

Does Presonus support running a 64-bit O/S? I think it does, but wasn't sure... just something to keep in mind. I know ProTools doesn't. The AMD Phenom II X4 3GHz quad core processor will be plenty. Max your RAM out and that will be one heck of a DAW. Tim

    DAW recording PC question

If you format you will lose data, so be careful. Those options work great for certain types of data, i.e. audio files, plugin settings, etc, as far as moving them over... Keep in mind you will still have to reinstall any plugin software after you install the O/S. XP still works great in you...

Thinking about adding an Avalon u5 to the rig.

The U5 is amazing, IMO. I was totally amazed and sold when I plugged into one at the studio a few months back. It is on my "buy this month" list. The only thing it is going to do is make your tone that much better, and $400.00 is great deal for one of those bad boys. You should be able to...

Need a little help with bass scales over chords

The Major scale (Ionian, 1st mode or root) and the Minor scale (Aeolian or the 6th mode) are probably the most popular from a "mode" perspective. You should know all 7 modes though. The Maj/Min Pentatonic and Arpeggio's are more patterns/scales that you will want to memorize as well. If...
