Doing it all wrong and not realling being a bassist anyway

I love the sound and the attack of a pick. I use one on stage exclusively. It works well with my band. I was playing a show once and the bass player from another band came up and asked why I use a pick, told me to be a man, blah blah blah. His band went on next. While he was on stage during his...

    Let's See Your Band Logos

Haha, right on! I'm in an original metal band, but we love to throw in a cover or two every few gigs. The premise on deciding on a cover is always, "Okay, does anybody around here do this? Have you ever heard this cover? And will people know what it is when they hear it?" This formula has always...

    Let's See Your Band Logos

Hmmmm....I could be WAY off, but I'm guessing Top 40 from the 70's, 80's and maybe 90's? What people would call a "party band"? Either that or popular classic rock, on the softer side (Journey, Foreigner, Boston, etc.).

    Let's See Your Band Logos

This thread reminds me....you really can tell what genre of music all of these bands play by just looking at their logo!

    Digitech bp355 patch ideas

I wonder if Crystalman even has this pedal still. I've had it for almost two years now and I'm considering going towards something "easier". I dunno, I'm just not feeling it anymore. I'm not sure if I'm just lazy or the tones just sound too digital. Maybe it's just too much pedal for my simple...

Illinois Bassist Club? Sure, why not!

Illinois has tons of people (mostly in Chicago, but whatever). Therefore there has to be a contingency of bassists from the state of Illinoize. State where you're from, pics of your babies (not actual babies), your gear, what bands you're in, etc. I shall hand out numbers like Pez from the...

    Left Handed Bassist Club?

Okay, either my search skills are extremely poor or I'm having a stroke. I don't have a headache, so it must be the latter. Is there a Left Handed Bassist Club here? I can't find one. Somebody take me by the hand and lead me, good sirs and madams. Thanks!

    Interesting headstock logo ideas

Yep, love em. I have inlay stickers on two basses and a guitar. They last a long time, super thin and high quality. Super cheap and doesn't take long to deliver from Japan. I'd try them. If you don't like them they're easy to remove with no residue.

Michael Anthony: Van Hagar cover "Won't Get Fooled Again" at 5150 studios (1993)

How can anyone say this cover sucks? Man, seriously? What exactly sucks about it? I'm intrigued.

    Fender Frankensteins

No, no clear coat over them afterward. Only time will tell if I'll regret that or not. I used rattle cans for both the pickguard and control plate. Rustoleum flat black on the plate, Rustoleum textured metallic paint on the guard. I prepped both pieces pretty well and I've had no issues with...

Thanks man! It's a beater, but it's my beater. :)

    Fender Frankensteins

No name jazz body, no name neck, Gotoh 201 bridge, Fender MIM pups. Pickguard and control plate painted by myself. Put together from parts myself. Hopefully that's enough to qualify!

    WSJ article on cover bands

It was the same way around here, man. I do admit though, we have a strong original metal scene here and there are plenty of shows to go around. But still....they just don't pay. The venues don't want to shell out the money. We obviously do it for the love of music, but seriously, a bone thrown...

Dave Mustaine Slams Bass Players-Says Bass is One Step Up from Kazoo. Discuss...

There is absolutely no way any of us can know in what context he made that comment in. It's in typed form. Was he serious? Was he laughing when he said it? Did he wink when he said it? NONE OF US KNOW. Regardless, Mustaine is a tool.

    WSJ article on cover bands

I know this article is geared toward cover bands, but it's much MUCH worse for original music bands. I'm in two original metal bands from where I'm from. In this area the best shows to get on are when you have three (or more) bands opening for a "national act" (Mushroomhead, Blue Felix, Otep...

Might have found my stolen bass-HELP!

Some people are making some really good points. But, the lack of activity with this "case" is making people post for the sake of posting. BOTTOM LINE: Faulkner, keep doing what you're doing, man. Let the police do their job. It will get handled properly and it sounds like it is (according to my...

    What would you do?

This is a no-brainer, man. You NEVER get back your time with family. Since 1996 I've works the worst shifts imaginable, including 24 hours shifts. To this day I still work every holiday, unless I luck out and it falls on my scheduled day off. I've missed out on my kid's birthdays, milestones and...

Is a 9 pound bass too heavy?

Yeah, that's a good point. Okay, how about this...someone handing you a 9 pound baby, saying it's yours, even though you've never seen it before? I guess that's a 'nother thread... ;)
  35. Grizz33

Is a 9 pound bass too heavy?

You can always think of this way... Would you rather hold a 9 pound bass or a 9 pound baby? Bass all day.
  36. Grizz33

Do you take a spare bass to a gig.

When you're left handed you should ALWAYS bring a back up. No more flipping basses upside down for this kid.
  37. Grizz33

    Hats at gigs?

My bass hat. I broke a string. Don't judge my sadness.

    Good Beginner Bass?

Definitely go used for your first bass. Like many had mentioned, bring a buddy who plays with you to your local music store, Guitar Center, etc. My first bass was an Ibanez Sound Gear. Nice thin neck, great starter bass. You should be able to pick one up for less than 200 dollars, especially if...
