Did avatar lower their speakers prices after they raised them?

I seem to recall a price raising back last fall, but now it appears they're back down again. Anyone notice this?

    Phil Jones Briefcase owners?

This thing really sounds good in the youtube clip. They check it out at 3:33 of the clip: Sounds really full and fat for such a small amp. Only 28 pounds, too.

My rig is massive, and sounds awesome, but I haven't found the right situation.

I've been working a lot, and it's hard enough as it is to find people for an original project. So I run my rig a couple times a week and kinda wish I had the time to put something together. Craiglist doesn't offer much in the way of original/indie rock opportunities around here, so my amp is...

Has anyone used MBT rack cases? Maybe you could suggest a cheap case?

I found these MBT cases online, but I can't get a clear measurement for any of their cases. The price is right, and it's the exact style I want for my Hartke LH500, but I don't know if it's going to be deep enough. Invalid Link Removed Can anyone suggest a similar case that can be had for...

    Praise for Dimarzio J's.

I recently bought a Schecter Diamond-J with a set of these in them. The previous owner put the Dimarzios in it, but failed to pad enough behind the pickup so they were way too far away from the strings. It was anemic and awful sounding, but after throwing some more foam behind them and getting...

What's your favorite Jazz neck pickup and why?

Bonus points for sound clips or video demos. I saw this cover band down on Bourbon Street a month ago. The bassist had the finest bass tone I had ever heard, and he was rocking a jazz bass. It was so fat I assumed it was the neck position. I really regret not asking the guy what he had loaded...

Are the Fender concentric pots for Jazz bass decent quality?

I went and bought the cheapest concentric pots I could find a couple months ago. I wish I could recall the small online store I bought them from to warn others, but I can't. Anyhow, not two months of use and one of them has gone ******. It pops and cuts out and the inner stem needs to be...

FS: MIJ 80s era Yamaha BB450 $250 shipped

    Hartke LH500 wattage/impedence question.

I just went through the manual and it doesn't specify what kind of wattage the amp pushes if you have two 8 ohm cabs plugged in independently into the two 8 ohm outputs. Does using both outputs turn it into a 4 ohm load somehow? Or is it still considered an 8 ohm load at 350 watts?

Preamp tube swapping with the Hartke LH500. Here are my findings.

Ok, I swapped around between the stock EH 12ax7EH, an old production Telefunken 12ax7, and an old production RFT ECC83 (which is basically a 12ax7). The differences were subtle, but tube tweakers with an ear for subtleties will appreciate the differences. The biggest differences noticeable...

T/S Parameters and the Eminence S2010 neo speaker with an Avatar B410.

I've been searching around here and I'm reading in a number of places that the speaker's response could make or break the tone of a cab. I've got an Avatar B410 that had the old Kappa ceramic speakers in it and I want to replace them with neo Eminence S2010 speakers. Has anyone done this...

    Bad Monkey be good!

I don't really see the need for an EQ modification to this pedal, the bass/treble controls seem to work wonderfully. The gain knob is really useable up and down the dial, too, without getting hissy or too nazty. Best $25 bucks I ever spent on my bass rig. :bassist:

Tubes and boom (maybe it's because it's a guitar amp?)

Many people scoffed when I said I was going to use a Peavey Butcher tube amp for bass. To some extent they were wrong, and to another extent they were right. The amp into my avatar 212 and 410 sounded fantastic until the volume got up to about 1 oclock, which was moderately loud, but not...

4 Eminence Kappa 10 inch speakers. Just putting some feelers out.

**SOLD**I'm not sure what the market would bear for a quad of these speakers from out of an Avatar 4x10 cabinet. I want to get some neo speakers, and I'm trying to see what I can get for these to help fund that pursuit. Please don't lowball me, but if you've seen the going rate and can make a...

Neo vs. regular magnet: Tone difference?

I've got an Avatar B410 cab, but it's the older one with the Kappa magnets. It sounds really good, a bit better than my neo b212 to my ears, fatter and punchier. Anyhow, if I were to swap out the Kappas do you think there would be a significant tonal difference? Am I just preferring the...

Now! I ordered the head and free pedal for $450 shipped! I loved the way this thing sounded in the shop I tried it in, but they couldn't come close to the price and I can't afford to waste any dough. I just can't wait for it, though. I wanna hear this through my Avatar cabs, now! [Invalid or...

    Are my speakers ok?

I don't currently have a head to test them, but the last few times I played my 120 Peavey tube Butcher head through my Avatar cabs I would get a lot of extraneous noise and distortion from my speakers if I put the volume above 6. At around 7, it's a good volume for jamming with a drummer and...

I think some of you guys need to head to the gym...

and lift some weights, or something. :hiding: I just can't get over someone even bothering to mention the weight of an amp, as if it's a ballbuster to have to carry, if it's under 30 pounds. :hmm: I understand there is a whole marketing thing, that simply grew out of the industry's...

    Good, cheap, loud SS head?

    1) It will be used for gigging with a loud rock band (let's assume I won't be miced). 2) I've got less than $400 bucks. I've already got the cabs sorted out (B212, B410). 3) I like to buy used, I'm a bang for buck kind of guy. 4) I'm looking for classic rock tones. Is this...

Geddy Leeing up my tone. Advice?

Ok, I've got an old Tokai '62 J/P clone from the 80s. It's got a nice J bridge pickup. I'm running that into a decent pedalboard with a bass big muff, RC boost, Behringer Multieffect stomper, Digitech Digidelay, and EH Octave Multiplexer. That is run straight down the throat of a 120 watt tube...

    Weird cab jumpering issue.

Ok, so I've got an Avatar B212 and an Avatar B410. Both are 8 ohm cabs, so I'm jumpering them to get a 4 ohm imepedence. With my amp going to the B212 and the be212 going to the avatar, it sounds great. It's very obvious both cabs are handing their share of the load and they sound terrific...

    Noise with a littlemark II?

I tried a LMII today at GC. At first, I thought the jazz bass single coils were causing 60 cycle hum. Then I tried a P bass and it was still making noise and it wasn't even that loud. Is this typical? I would assume it would be relatively quiet even at higher volumes.

This is my 80's Yamaha BB450 (on the P pickup) through my 80's 120 watt tube Peavey Butcher head and an avatar B212 and B410 cabs. The bass, mid, treble controls are all on about 2 o'clock. The volume is about at 2 o'clock, too. My recordings skills are pretty weak, but the warmth and tone...

I fixed a rattling tuner with super glue.

My old Yamaha BB450 had one tuner rattling. The butterfly was attached to the tuner stem with a little metal node. It just got a little loose, I suppose, over the years of use. I put a tiny dose of superglue over the hole where the node sits and the rattle is now gone.

If we could get Ceriatone to build a tube amp, which circuit would you choose?

They do a ton of classic guitar circuits, maybe they should do a couple of classic bass circuits? They actually do a Marshall Super Bass and a Bassman, but I'm thinking maybe something with a ton of headroom and maybe some massive power rating would be in order. What would you suggest?

Weird overtones from a speaker cab?

Ok, so I've got this Peavey 4x10TX cab I just bought yesterday. At lower volumes, it seemed to sound fine. When I got it home and ran it at high volumes I began to notice some overtones on the E and A strings. It's almost like there is a double note being played, one of which is not in key...

Anyone using NOS tubes in their preamp section?

I just swapped out a Peavey branded 12ax7 for a Sylvania 12at7 into V1 of my Peavey Butcher and it totally smoothed out the tones and gave me more headroom. Plenty of volume on tap, too. I know a lot of people go for the SVT type grit, but I really just wanted to get as much smooth headroom...
