Your last statement is incorrect. Custom Shop Master Built product is not stamped or engraved Relic on the necks or bodies.

I would try the DiMarzio Model P. It will give you a nice high gain tone, similar to the G&L MFD pickups. also, try a Hipshot all brass type B bridge. Those are great, super well made, and will add some sustain to your notes.

The cracks look like finish cracks to me. They are coming off of pickguard screw holes, so probably moisture that got in the holes and cracked the finish.

none of my basses have volume or tone controls. I have an on/off switch wired to the jack and a toggle to switch between pickups.

These were Custom Shop basses designed and built by former Master Builder Jason Davis. They never went into production. The pickups were Bill Lawrence pickups, and the hardware was from Hipshot.

I loop my cable thru the cabinet handle and also velcro my amp head to the cabinet with industrial strength velcro.

For the money Squier makes some pretty amazing instruments. I have played some Squiers that play much better than some USA made basses. I don't think you can go wrong it that price point with a Squier instrument.

The tone wide open is still affecting the tone of the bass with the capacitor. The best tone of a P I have had is a P pickup wired straight to the Jack.
