    Wenge Neck Club

Decided to get all my Wenge necked instruments out for a group photo. My matching Fenders with Warmoth Wenge necks, Two Warwick Thumbs, Mayones Ori and Grand Chapman stick

    Wenge Neck Club

I have one…but my experience has been less than stellar, with no part being the fault of Mayones. After months of waiting FedEx delivered the bass in a big bag soaking wet. I should have never signed for it, but hard in the moment. Took weeks to get the neck how I wanted it and when I finally...

I Miss My Warwick Thumb 5

The thumb is one of those basses that you own and love the tone, but the weight or ergonomics can be a major turn off. I’ve had at least one thumb in my arsenal for over 15 years. I remind myself why they’re on the never sell list, every time I plug them in.

I’m currently having a love affair with brightly colored multi scale basses. Mayones Ori and Kiesel A2

Ha typo! It’s the dark glass tone capsule with their tritium pickups.

Yes. It’s British Racing Green with two tone yellow and white splatter over top.

"Official" Carvin and Kiesel Club - Part 3

Just received my A2 bass. I’ve never been into loud finishes, but went all out with my Packers bass. Really pleased with the time capsule preamp and the pickups. Considering I didn’t like the Thanos bass I owned at all, this one has me very satisfied.

The Official Warwick Club (Part 6)

Did a little work on my thumb sc today. The mini toggle switches for the pickups were worn out and I’ve been having issues with preamp anyways. Wired up new toggle switches and installed an Aguilar obp3, really pleased with the sound. Just need a replacement stack knob and I’ll be good to go.

    Mayones owners club.

My Ori Enji arrived yesterday….unfortunately FedEx did not take care. I’ve been having basses shipped for 15 years and I’ve never had an instrument show up without a box. How FedEx destroyed the box is beyond me but bass arrived in its gig bag. opened it up and everything looked fine, got it...

The Official Warwick Club (Part 6)

If anyone is ever thinking about trying a high c on a thumb 5, give it a go. Something about the tone and string spacing works great with the c. I know that’s a sacrilege with how great the low b is, but digging it so far.

Which bass that you own has your favorite slap bass sound?

Favorite slap sound for me is my Fodera Ryan Martinie bass. It’s got that aggressive burpy mid range in the middle position like the Warwick thumb it’s modeled after, but my biggest surprise was how good the neck pickup sounds on its own.

    Buyers Beware/Scam: Rick Link/Beardly Customs

Man, I hate to see this. I’ve followed Beardly for years and have often thought about taking the gamble and ordering a bass from him. My fear of ending up in this situation has always stopped me. I really hope he makes this right, and I could understand wanting a full refund vs full rebuild at...

The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

Similar tone obviously due to the pickup positioning, but they are completely different animals. The Warwick has that trademark growl and has a deeper sound. The Fodera is brighter due to the bolt on and wood choice. The Fodera is an overall more comfortable player due to weight. But every time...

Show us your jazz PARTS basses!

My two parts builds. On the left Warmoth body with 60’s bridge position in fiesta red, with a Warmoth wenge neck, finished with fralin pups in a stacked knob config. Right is a Fender Geddy Lee body, with Satus Graphite neck, stock pups with Audere preamp.

Warwick Thumb NECK DIVE (Bolt-on vs Neck-thru)

So to join in on the fun. Here’s my 2022 Thumb NT5 and my Fodera Ryan Martinie Standard with the same strap. With a wide strap and held in my preferred playing position, I don’t get any dive. The fodera is lighter by at least a pound.

Warwick Thumb NECK DIVE (Bolt-on vs Neck-thru)

I’ve owned only NT thumbs over the years 4’s,5’s, and 6. I found the 4 strings to not have that bad of dive while strapped high. But that does make the first fret feel like a mile away. The 5 is manageable with a wide strap, but the 6 is an absolute boat anchor. They truly are one of the kind...

    Fodera Club Part XXVII

Slapped a set of DR DDTs 50-110 with the 130 off a HI Beams set on my Ryan Martinie Standard, and have been running through some L.D. 50 songs. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a bass strung up this heavy. Set up was a breeze and the neck is rock solid stable. Tuned F# B F# B E

    Fodera Ryan Martinie Black Beauty

There are now two standards. That’s the painted zig zag standard. The custom shop version has a mixed wood top for the zig zag.

    Fodera Ryan Martinie Black Beauty

100% this. Owning both and playing them frequently. Look I love thumbs, I’ve had many over the years, but the fodera is just more comfortable. Warwick has a sound that’s hard to replicate but the fodera gets close enough and is comfortable in any position.

    Fodera Ryan Martinie Black Beauty

Yea this seems like a really weird video all together. Odd TikTok style format for a brand like Fodera. It seems like they’re trying to reach a new younger metal centric audience with this bass for sure. I still thought this pairing for a signature was an odd from a sales stand point both due to...

    Keisel Thanos Bass

I owned a thanos 5 string for all of 3 weeks before selling it. I found the upper horn and body overall uncomfortable. When playing strapped high you could practically rest your chin on the upper horn.

    2023 Bass Acquisition Round Up

Finally got a chance to get this bass out in some sunlight. After a week of playing, this has quickly become my favorite. I would say Fodera lives up to the hype. Ryan Martinie Standard

Correct, came setup and tuned standard with a set of 45-130.

    Fodera Club Part XXVII

I don’t have the biggest hands, and have always preferred tighter spacing. This is pretty much matched to the Warwick Thumb in terms of neck measurements, so it feels like home.

    Fodera Club Part XXVII

I’ve finally joined the ranks of Fodera ownership with a Ryan Martinie Standard. The bad boy is serial number #1. I’ve been a huge fan of Ryans music for a decade and after dragging my wife to Asheville to see his band Soften The Glare play and talking about these basses constantly, my wife...

    NBD! Fodera Ryan Martinie Standard

I dont currently have a working scale but the Warwick is around 11lbs and I’d say the fodera is maybe around 9.5 just guessing

    NBD! Fodera Ryan Martinie Standard

When I was in high school, I first heard mudvayne and it changed my outlook on bass. Ryan Martinie’s style was game changing. I got into Warwick and was personally disappointed when he started playing Fodera. I drug my wife to Asheville a few months ago to see Ryan’s band Soften The Glare play...

The Official Warwick Club (Part 6)

The SC preamp and pickup combo is different than what you’d expect. Especially compared to other Warwick basses with both active pickups and preamps. I generally run mine with no pad setting engaged on my amp. It’s temperamental depending on how the switches are oriented. I tend to get the least...

    Stacked knob jazz help

Alright, so I put in new stacked pot and rewired everything and it’s working as it should now. Don’t know if it was a cold solder joint or the old pot itself, but everything is working perfectly now. Thanks for all the advice

    Stacked knob jazz help

So I’ve spent some time this week working on this, and I’ve tried several different orange drop capacitors on both pots to see if anything would change, but no dice. Would the consensus be that it’s more than likely the pot?

    Stacked knob jazz help

Thanks for the reply. I have tried several different combinations. If I have the neck volume all the way turned up, then neither the tone knobs offer any real treble bite. It’s just a dominate neck p/u sound with no real treble. It seems like in any combination, the only way I get much bite to...

The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

Just finished putting this together. My vintage/modern take on a jazz bass. Warmoth body in fiesta red, warmoth neck in wenge with an ebony fretboard, fralin split jazz pickups, hip shot ultralite tuners. Still working out some electronic kinks and need to age some of the new hardware, but love...
