Just got mine! I've only played through my main rig once with it, but it definitely cuts through the mix and sounds better than my old odb3, so I'm satisfied.

I just got the red ripper and it sounds great. I really like the range of sounds I can get from all three pedals individually, and the Aguilar -> ripper sounds FAT. Debating whether to leave it like it is or expand to a larger board...

The one pedal that will always be on my board is my ehx enigma q-balls. It has a GREAT straight envelope sound that really cuts through the mix. Plus, it has a lot of knobs, and knobs are generally cool.

When I had mine, I would use it during quieter parts of jams; try playing higher notes and/or chords. I liked letting the notes ring out and letting the chorus (or a light fast flanger/tremolo) create some movement. I feel like I can't hear the effect when playing louder, faster, more bassy...

I learned bass on a starter series ibanez and it kept me interested until I could upgrade to a mim fender. I am incredibly thrilled with my SR505 I just picked up. It has incredible tone and playability for the pricetag. If you need a quality instrument for a cheaper price go ibanez.

I've given intergender lessons in high school before. Just teach her basic scales, how to use a tuner and metronome, and how to look up tabs for songs she likes. Be patient, girls get frustrated.
