What would you guys recommend to replace the pj setup in this stock bass. I want a whole package with controls. Active or passive and soldering is not a problem. Looking for vintage growl and tone.
Here's my "sorry ass" tunes in our list, Black Magic Woman, Down By the River, Born on the Bayou, Simple Man, Proud Mary, Mustang Sally, Let it bleed, Knock on wood, Helpless, Every Rose, Sweat Virginia.
This is the elusive live growl sound I seek but can never get in a live situation. This has prompted me to seek out tasty quieter bands recently. I'm a stickler for sound quality and bass is one of the toughest challenges there is to get right on stage. I have been dealing with it by placing my...
I tried the open mike thing. Sat there with my bass case at my feet while 10 acoustics acts did there things. Some nice stuff but not a good set up for hooking up if you're a bass man.
Well this is our lot in life it seems. I spend a lot of time shedding on tunes (covers). I like to nail it and then....let the song take on it's own feel as the band settles into it. My current drummer shows up having not even listened to a tune. And other members are only slightly better. My...
It's much tougher now to hook up with a band. No doubt about it. Moving away from hard copy (paper adds) has hurt the business just like it has the dating scene. Good luck hooking up there too!
Give me Trading Times Music Grapevine, any day of the week! You got a phone number, and within a week...
It was much easier old school method. In a local paper called the Trading Times there was a musicians grapevine section. One or two responses to want adds would have me in a decent band in 2 weeks max. Try that **** now! Same goes for on line dating, just as bad.
I have a 210 neo GK cab that I use with either a 4-10 Hy-Drive or 2-12. All cabs are 8 ohm so I can use any two together for a 4 ohm load to my Genz shuttle 600. I find (found) that having the 210 sit on top was a nice size and moved a little more air for outdoor deck work. Well after one summer...
How about, you've got a place rocking, finish up strong second set, take a break and come back to have the band leader call ****ing "Helpless" Neil Young. That and Born on the Bayou. ***... Don't know if I can commit to another season. But jobs are hard to come by so we'll see. Back in the...
How about when your front man calls Helpless (Neil Young) to start the third set, when your trying to get people up on the floor. And it keeps happening. We have about 1/2 dozen what I consider to be real stinkers. I can't seem to get them purged.
I have tried to talk to this guy but it turns...
Good feedback from all you guys..really. I appreciate it! Yeah it's a funny (and not so funny) situation you can find yourself in. We have a pedal steel guy who I thought was permanent but he only makes certain shows as the summer season revealed. He has another band that takes precedence...
I joined a country rock (with some classic thrown in) band in the spring of this year. I worked my ass off to learn the tunes with about 90% of them requiring my harmony voicing. A lot of work. I was welcomed to the band as a fully participating member. I have put in several suggestions for...
I have the Shuttle 6.0. The head has started making a loud screeching noise at the beginning of every gig. I replaced the tube but it has started again. This lasts for about 5-10 minutes and is pretty nasty. It even comes through when the mute is on. Then it will stop and is ok the rest of the...
Good stuff from you guys......I'll take some time with the sound man and the DI itself next gig. I downloaded the manual but all your advice on settings makes sense.
I'm using two basses, Washburn active force and an Allen Woody Epiphone. I installed an Aguilar pre-amp in the Woody so plenty of...
Thanks...not sure about the monitor. I know the kick drum and myself was coming through it. But it's mixed on the board so it's powered or coming through as an amplified signal from board. I'll give your suggestions a go.
I stepped on the unit's foot switch and a hellatious sound emerged. All the controls looked to be at about the 12 o'clock position. Anyway I turned it back (off?). I didn't want to blow anything. I'll see if I can download the manual....maybe go early and start from scratch.
I do a weekly gig at a beach resort restaurant that has issues with Twp. sound ordinances. So no equipment other than our instruments. They have a Sansamp Bass Driver DI up on the stage for me to plug into. There is a good size monitor right behind me (2-12"s) The sound is driving me effin...
Yeah that is a sweet tone. I seam to struggle with good live tone. And it gets worse when the volume level of the band comes up. But they are keeping it real on the vid. Pretty tasty in my opinion!!
Well I ordered the Aguilar OBP-2SK. So I will have the same control configuration with the exception that the tone control will now be a stacked treble/bass cut & boost. Will update after the install.
Thanks....when I got the bass I had to do a total setup. Truss, nut, intonation and action. Pickups are plenty close to strings. I hear you about the Rumblecats strengths. And I like the tone and feel of the bass a lot. I just need more signal/power from the bass...period. I want to do it...
Hammer, thanks but I don't want to go external. I use a GenzBenz Shuttle 6.0 with two 8 ohm cabs normally. Sometimes I use a single cab with the resultant loss of power down to 1/2 of amps rated power output. I find that the passive setup on the Epiphone and my Hofner CT club just doesn't have...
